By Richard Gardner | Updated: Oct 4th 2023

In the real board game of Monopoly, the Go to Jail square has got to be one of the most hated. But for some players, landing on Go to Jail in Monopoly GO is something that they want to do, we take a look at why, and reveal the trick that is bagging some people thousands of dice in Monopoly GO by landing on Go to Jail.

How to get thousands of free dice by landing on Go to Jail in Monopoly GO

The trick is to wait until you get High Roller and then try to land on Go to Jail, then hope you roll a double. Some people are literally getting thousands of dice this way, but I think a lot of people are trying and losing too.

The probability of rolling a double within 3 rolls is about 42% (we explain the calculation in full at the end of this article), so even if you land on the Go to Jail square which is a very low probability anyway, you've still got to roll a double within three throws while in jail to get the free bonus dice reward which is the value of one of the dice in the double multiplied by your multiplier.

So if you land on Go to Jail with the 1,000 multiplier, which is more easily got it you have High Roller, then roll a double 6, you'll get 6,000 dice.

Airplane Mode Cheat

But some players also claim to be taking advantage of something else to give them and edge in this game, so they can basically retry their roll if it's not what they want. The airplane mode trick basically means starting the game, turning on airplane mode, making your roll, then if you don't like the result you can turn off your game, then restart the game, when it has started loading anytime after 1% turn off airplane mode then you should still have your dice and be back at the earlier position before you rolled.

If on the other hand you got the result you wanted, then leave the game on and turn airplane mode off.

Airplane Mode Glitch - Everything You Need to Know

We actually tried this cheat out ourselves for the purpose of testing with a few dice and it worked on 1st October 2023, however, we've also read reports that the developers are cracking down on this glitch and others like it and are banning accounts that they catch, so use at your own risk. To be honest, I hope they patch it soon as it will make the game fairer for everyone.

This video explains the process in more detail

Other reports about how to use airplane mode in Monopoly GO that we've read on the internet include going as far as deleting the app for iOS users then reinstalling it just to get back to where you were before wasting dice.

Reports say that Android users just have to delete data for the Monopoly GO app to get your dice back to the point where you switch on airplane mode.

I didn't try either of those methods, I just simply turned off airplane mode, rolled, then closed the app, opened it again, turned off airplane mode and the dice were back!

But as I said earlier, while it doesn't look like this trick is patched yet, it seems that the developers are able to see who's using this cheat and have banned some accounts for doing so, so try at your own risk!

AppGamer promotes honest gaming. While we love tap in cheats and redeem codes that are programmed into games, we dislike hacks and glitches which harm the game for the the community, we are reporting on this glitch so people know it exists and and it may reveal some insight into how some players have been getting so many dice!

Probability of rolling a double in 3 consecutive tries

For anyone interested, here is the explanation for the probability of rolling a double in three tries.

There are a total of 36 possible outcomes when you roll two dice (6 sides on the first die times 6 sides on the second die). Out of these 36 outcomes, there are 6 outcomes that result in a double.

So, the probability of rolling a double on a single throw is 6/36, which simplifies to 1/6 or 17%.

Now, you want to know the probability of rolling a double in three throws. To calculate this, we can use the complement rule. The complement rule states that the probability of an event happening is equal to 1 minus the probability of the event not happening.

In this case, the probability of NOT rolling a double on a single throw is 1 - (1/6) = 5/6.

Now, we can calculate the probability of NOT rolling a double in three throws and then subtract it from 1 to get the probability of rolling a double in three throws:

Probability of NOT rolling a double in one throw: (5/6)

Probability of NOT rolling a double in three throws: (5/6)^3 (because these are independent events)

Probability of rolling a double in three throws: 1 - (5/6)^3 ≈ 0.4213 which when termed as a percentage is 42%

So, the probability of rolling a double with two dice in three throws is approximately 42%.
