Upon first starting the game, you will be presented with a lengthy tutorial section. Anyone familiar with games of this genre such as Clash of Clans will feel instantly at home. First, we are introduced to Saponza, who we learn is an old partner from our character's past. Beginning on Tatooine, the resources you require for basic gameplay are explained. These are Credits, for building up an army, and Alloy, for crafting buildings for your base.

To get things started, tap on the building indicated. This will allow you to collect your first batch of resources. The next task is to enhance your base's defenses, which actually at this point are non-existent. Tap on the shop icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, before tapping the Autoturret icon and choosing a position to place it in. For the purposes of the tutorial it really doesn't matter where you put it, so just dump it anywhere so that you can progress.

The game then suggests you spend your Crystals on rushing the production of the Autoturret. It takes seconds to finish, so we suggest waiting and saving the Crystals for later. You are given a large amount to begin with, but it doesn't hurt to be careful with them! Luckily, just as the turret is completed, Outlaws attack. You will get a good victory and three stars - in exactly the same rating mechanism as Clash of Clans.

You are then introduced to Bib Fortuna. Those men who just attacked? They worked for Jabba the Hut, who now considers us an enemy. With that in mind, further strengthening the base's defenses is your number one priority. Follow the game's instructions to build an Alloy Refinery (tap the Shop icon to select it). You should also build another Droid, as Saponza suggests. This allows you to work on two structures at any time. Tap on the Droid Hut, then the Buy Droid button to get yourself a new one for a lofty 250 Crystals. This allows you to build the Alloy Depot while your Refinery is still under construction, so do this now.

We then meet Darth Vader himself. Apparently the Imperial garrison on Tatooine requires local assistance in taking out a Tusken Raider camp. Vader has given us some AT-STs to use for the task, and the game then switches to attack mode.

For this, you simply need to tap on screen to deploy your units wherever you like. Usually you would pick strategic locations to set them down, but it really doesn't matter here. One by each turret would be sensible. They will then enter the arena and destroy the turrets, earning you another 3 star victory.

Once you return to base, another transmission comes through, this one from Princess Leia. If we take her mission, Han Solo will be assisting us too. Clearly the game is demonstrating the two different sides on offer - and eventually it will be up to you who you support. We are first transported to Dandoran for Leia's mission, however. The enemy base has a Shield Generator, which you need to use Han Solo to destroy, so tap him nearby, before sending the rest of the units in after him at each end of the base.

Tutorial

Despite this success, once you return to base, you will find it has been destroyed by Jabba's forces. Saponza insists we choose a side at this point, so pick either the Empire or the Rebels to make your decision. See the Rebels or Empire section of this guide for a brief summary of each side. Luckily, regardless of who you choose, your base is restored to its former status. You will also receive a Squad Center, which allows you to join a Squad and form alliances with other players. Choose where to place it, bearing in mind you can move buildings around later.

Choose your 'Call Sign' (your name, basically), when prompted by Saponza. Select whether to receive 'Field Reports', basically prompts on your device when your base has been attacked, among other messages.

You should upgrade your Headquarters next, as Saponza suggests. This will allow you to build more structures. To do so, tap on the large building in the center of your base, and then tap Upgrade. You can either do it instantly, using 14 Crystals, or pay the Alloy cost of 1,500 (which is what you should do!). You can finish it straight away for a Crystal, or wait 30 seconds. Again, it's better to wait as Crystals will become scarce later on.

Tutorial

Next up are the Barracks. Head into the Shop and choose them to commence building. If it needs to be said again, here goes: Save your Crystals! Wait for it to finish. With that done, you are able to begin training your own troops. Tap the Barracks and then the Train icon to see what you can build. As you will see, you can only train one type of unit at the moment - others require you to upgrade your Barracks or unlock Campaign Rewards along the way. After a few minutes of waiting you will have your five troops.

A screen will pop up making it look as though you can do what you like now, but in fact you still have to follow Saponza's advice and take on your first real mission. Tap the Play icon and then choose Chapter 1: Humble Beginnings, to get started. We need to clear out some Womp Rats - the five man team we assembled at the Barracks should be more than enough.

After this, you are now free to play however you wish!
