Memories are a new feature of Murder By Choice to help us pass the time as we wait for Chapter 2. The Memories are short story sections that give us an insight into the background of the main characters and some of the events that occurred shortly before the main story.

What are Memories

The new Memories in the game has 5 sections covering 5 main characters. Each is a small side story covering events from a characters perspective that occurred before or during the main story but that we did not experience as we were playing as Carla.

The sections are:

  • Q - Miraculous and Q
  • Mrs. Bird - Sins of the Past
  • Portia - Portia's Scheme
  • Jax - Jax's One-night Stand
  • Margot - Murderer's Path

Each of these is broken down into 3 or more Acts that you need to unlock in order to play through. To open each Act you need tro collect Shards.

How to get Shards

There are 2 ways to get shards in Murder by Choice. The first is to buy them in the shop, this is the quick way to do it but will cost quite a lot of money to cover all of the memories in the game.

The second is through playing the new Memory Map game. This is a hidden object puzzle game with a variety of levels that let you earn shards for completing puzzles and levels.

Memory Map

The memory Map is found in the Memories Screen. This is a hidden object mini game with various areas to unlock and lots of items to find. The game a range of zones and modes to explore as well as modifiers that are added to make the puzzles more challenging.

You can play Hidden Object Scenes to find items and earn rewards. Each scene that you want to play will cost you either 1 Memory Ticket or Energy if you don't have any tickets available. You will each more tickets from completing scenes. And you will also gain a free ticket after 24 hours if you don't have any remaining.

To complete each hidden object scene puzzle you need to finding all of the items within the time limit. Doing this will earn you some shards and XP. The XP will then increase your level in the game. As you level up you can earn more shards and other items.

Zones

The memory map is divided into zones. There are areas of an overall background image containing hundreds of random memory items. At the start you will only have access to the central zone. You can unlock further zones with Keys that you will get from leveling up at certain points. The first is when you reach level 5.

In each puzzle that you face you will be in one of the zones that you have unlocked so far. This is chosen at random but you can re roll this choice for a chance of changing it. This will cost you Energy.

Modes

There are 3 modes that you can get assigned for each scene you play.

Classic - This is a normal listing of the hidden objects that you need to find, you will see up to 6 names of the items listed on the screen and you can find any of them to progress.

Pairs - Similar to the classic mode with names on the screen, but you need to find a two of each item mentioned before moving on to another item. This can be much harder.

Silhouettes - The names are replaced by shapes of the items you need to find, e.g. instead of the word Banana you will see a banana shape.

As with the Zones, you can choose to re-roll the mode that you are assigned before starting the scene. This costs Energy.

Modifiers

Finally the scene will have a Modifier. This can add a small change to the rules of the game which will often make the scene harder to complete. When you start out you will have one modifier and will unlock others as you level up. As you reach higher levels you can get combinations of modifiers on each scene.

  • Regular - Normal game, you will have 6 item cards at a time to find.
  • Two at a Time - You will only see 2 item names / silhouettes to search for at a time.
  • Mirror - The scene that you see will be flipped horizontally making the surroundings look different.
  • Sequence - Any items listed on the screen will be numbered, you will need to find them in order, this is effectively meaning that you only have 1 item to find at a time.
  • Shuffle - The item cards (names / silhouettes) can get changed every 10 seconds. 2 or 3 of the cards will be changed meaning that you may need to start looking for something else every 10 seconds.

Modifiers can also be re-rolled for Energy.

Some of these alterations to the game play, especially in combination with each other, can make a huge difference to the difficulty of each level.

Memory Map Hints and Tips

Screen size

If possible for you we definitely recommend playing on the largest screen device you can. Many of the items to find a small an din some cases partially hidden behind other items in the scene. On most phones this can make them quite hard to see.

Zoom

If you don't have a large screen you can zoom into the scene to a certain amount to make it easier to see objects. This does then mean scrolling around the scene a lot to locate objects and can slow you down but it will help to see some of the very smll items you need to locate.

Use all of the time

The time for each scene is limited at three minutes but there is no benefit to being faster. Take your time to look around the scene at the start and don't panic. You can get a lot done in three minutes.

Practice and memory

The scenes themselves are confusing with lots of items in them but with practice you will get used to the sore of items that you will be looking for and the background items that are always there. Try to remember the standout items that are often required to be found and then spot them in the scenes even if they are not currently names on the screen. It is likely that they will be one of the names items that appear as you progress through a scene and you can find them again quickly.

We hope this guide is useful for you in enjoying this extra game feature in Murder By Choice. It is good to play more hidden objects puzzles and you will be able to learn move about the characters and story.
