Probably everything you do in the game will hinge on the importance of having sufficient resources available. They can be obtained through some buildings like the farm or the lumber mill to get the likes of food and lumber respectively.

Resources

Food is mostly used for troop training. The cost increases gradually as you unlock more powerful units. They can be obtained from production buildings but most notably from resource nodes you can occupy later in the open world. You can also obtain these from raiding other player’s bases but this also opens you up to retaliation from them or their allies.

Resources

Lumber is mostly used for building structures and upgrading them. The cost increases per upgrade of the building and higher rank buildings also cost more lumber to even build.

They can be obtained from production buildings but most notable from resource nodes you can occupy later in the open world. You can also obtain these from raiding other player’s bases but this also opens you up to retaliation from them or their allies.

When obtaining resources from resource nodes in the State Map, Make sure that you have built the Arsenal so that you can build wagons. Wagons have the highest cargo amount of the units. And since resource nodes do not have opponents, You can occupy them with just wagon units.

Aside from having wagons, the Library has some specific research points that will increase troop load for every unit. Meaning the Wagons will also increase their load.

The research units in question are Wagon Train and Wagon Train II.

Aside from regular resources, there are also protected resources. A portion of any of your collected resource will be protected. Protected resources are, as their name implies, protected. They cannot be stolen by other players nor given to any of other player. They are also invisible to enemy scouts.

Protected resources have a smaller storage size but can be increased by various skills like in the Library's research called "Cellar" and "Cellar II".

Upgrading the warehouse also increases the protected resources from theft.

Furthermore, assigning a hero to the warehouse also improves it.
