Maybe try upgrading your troops, you can also try switching or upgrading your officers, to make sure they are well matched to the unit they are commanding.

Another thing would be to make sure the units you are using are strong against the units you are facing. For example, if you are fighting infantry, have a look to see if you have a unit such as rocket launcher which will be strong against infantry.
