What are the ways to get Hardwood?

If you can get wood from trees, surely Hardwood should be available from them as well, right? Well, not all trees grow up equal, such as the ones in the real world. There is some wood that's softer and more pliable while there is some wood that has sturdy features. This means that specific trees can provide you with Hardwood.

There are different trees as well as scattered wood sources available so you will take note of its features. Also, this resource is not limited to full grown trees only. If you want to acquire Hardwood, you can get them from the following sources:

  • Chop Large Stumps: Large stumps are remains of dead trees; they have big roots and have circular patterns on top of them. Some large stumps can be found on your farm when starting out, but you can find large stumps at the secret forest that respawn daily. If you have a Forest Farm, you can find Large Stumps on the left side of your farm. The Four Corners farm also has one on the upper left side of the farm. Take note that you can only chop Large Stumps using a Copper Axe or better qualities.
  • Chop Large Logs: When clearing the land of your farm, you can find large hollow logs lying on the ground. You can also find it in Cindersap Forest on the upper-left side of the map, blocking the entrance to the secret woods. Once you chop down large logs, they won't reappear anymore. Large Logs can only be chopped using a Steel Axe or better qualities.
  • Get the Lumberjack profession: If you have chosen the Lumberjack Profession, then normal trees have a chance to drop Hardwood. You can chop trees or use bombs if you want things quicker.
  • Woodskip Fish Ponds: If you make a fish pond and house it with 6 Woodskip, you can be rewarded with 5 pieces of Hardwood if your fish are happy.

With all of this in mind, the easiest way for you to get Hardwood daily is to harvest them from the Secret Woods daily. You'll need a Silver Axe so you can chop the log that blocks the entrance. If you have a Forest farm, then hardwood won't be of any issue for you.

What are Mahogany Trees?

With Stardew Valley's 1.5 update, there's a new place that you can visit called Ginger Island. Along with this update, new features have been added such as the Mahogany tree. This tree isn't widespread though so you might not be familiar with how it looks. The leaves of this tree are clumped together and it looks rectangular. With this in mind, chopping down Mahogany Trees not only produce Hardwood, but you can also acquire its seeds.

Keep Mahogany seeds and plant them so they can grow back. You can use tree fertilizers to speed up the growth for earlier harvests. Another quick way to get Mahogany Seeds is by going to the secret woods on the upper-left side of Cindersap Forest (south of your farm). You can defeat slimes and they have a chance to drop Mahogany Seeds.
