Stardew Valley: Farm Type Guide
Before we get to play Stardew Valley, you will start by creating a new file which means you will be creating your own character as well. The character creation, farm name, pet preference, and all other things are done on the left side. If you check the right side of this interface, you'll find that there are several icons available. These are the farm types available in Stardew Valley.
In our Stardew Valley: Farm Type Guide, we will discuss the various farm types and features in the game.
What is a Farm Type in Stardew Valley?
By default, you'll be provided with the standard farm. There's a chance that some people do not notice the farm types that are available, so they start out with a standard one. A farm type determines the layout of your farm, it will also affect which resources are available as well as how much space that you have for your buildings. Some farm types also have their own quirks available, here are the different types as well as their in-game descriptions.
Farm Types in Stardew Valley
- Standard Farm: A simple plot of land, with a large amount of open space to design your farm.
- Riverland Farm: Your farm is spread across several islands and scenic riverbanks. Fish are more common here than usual.
- Forest Farm: The woods limit your farming space. However, the bounty of the forest is early at your doorstepâ¦
- Hill-top Farm: Rocky terrain and a winding river make it difficult to design your farm. However, a mineral deposit provides mining opportunities.
- Wilderness Farm: There's plenty of good land here, but beware⦠at night the monsters come out.
- Four Corners Farm: The land is divided into four parcels, each with its own perk. Perfect for a group!
- Beach Farm: Good foraging and fishing, and tons of open space. Sometimes, supply crates wash up on shore. However, sprinklers don't work in the sandy soil.
Standard Farm Features
- Best for the Farming skill: The standard farm has the largest land area amongst all types of farms. This is ideal for growing different types of crops since you can till a lot of soil, or perhaps you can grow a lot of animals by adding their corresponding buildings.
- Fishing Spots: There are two areas on the farm where you can fish. There's a very tiny pond near your house which is useful as well for refilling your water can, while there's a medium sized pond at the south of the map.
Riverland Farm Features
- Best for the Fishing skill: The riverland farm as the name implies, is best suited to improve your fishing skill. Because of this, there is limited land where you can grow crops or raise animals.
- Fishing Spots: The majority of the farm is surrounded by water. You can catch town river fish similar to those in Pelican Town, forest fish such as those in the Cindersap Forest, and even have bubble spots throughout the water.
Forest Farm Features
- Best for the Foraging skill: The forest farm is filled with natural plant life. There are bushes available where wild berries can grow which will help in your foraging skill. There's an area to the west of the farm that has large stumps for hardwood and there are also foragable items depending on the season. Because of the farm's layout, the number of buildings you can place will be smaller, and there is less space for crops and animals.
- Fishing Spots: There are four fishing spots available on the forest farm with varying sizes. You have a 5% chance to catch Woodskip depending on your luck. 45% of the time the other fish are pond and river fish similar to those that you can find at the Cindersap Forest. The remaining chance is for you to get trash which is also common in the fishing spots here.
Hill-top Farm Features
- Best for the Mining skill: The Hill-top farm is a place where you can use your pickaxe in a lot of resources. Stones, Nodes, and Geodes are available for the picking once you have access to those areas. You might have to upgrade your pickaxe to clear large boulders first or your axe to clear out huge pieces of wood such as stumps or logs. Because of the cliffs, farming with crops and animals can be limited.
- Fishing Spots: There is a huge river across the farm that divides it into two areas. You have a 50% chance to catch forest river fish such as the ones near the Cindersap Forest, while the remaining 50% lets you catch trash.
