How to get Clay?

Clay is a resource that you will commonly associate with dirt, or the ground, just like in real life. In Stardew Valley, this resource is something that you will have to find. It's not sold in stores, so you will have to do some dirty work.

If you are tending on your farm, such as planting crops and growing them, you will be tilling the soil with your hoe. You might notice that there are times where you can acquire items. This is going to be a common task you'll be doing if you want to get Clay. Here are the methods that you can do in order to get Clay as your resource.

  • Till soil: Whenever you are using the hoe, you can hit the ground in order to till it. Usually, this is done in order for you to prepare seeds and water them in order to get crops. Tilling the soil gives you a chance to acquire Clay as well. This is the easiest method, but it will take some time and energy.
  • Dig up Artifact Spots: If you go around anywhere in Stardew Valley, you'll notice that there can be some worms wriggling on the ground. This is an artifact spot, and you can use your hoe in order to dig up an item. Clay is a common item that you can acquire from artifact spots, and they are more common in winter as well.
  • Cracking open Geodes: If you visit the mines often, or if you like breaking rocks with your pickaxe, there will be times where you can acquire Geodes. This item can be brought to the blacksmith so it can be cracked open for you in order to get items. Clay is a possible resource here, as well as other items such as minerals.
  • Receive them as Gifts: During Winter time, there is an event called the Feast of the Winter Star. Here, you can exchange gifts with people from the town. If Jas or Vincent has chosen you, they can provide Clay as gifts.

If you are in need of Clay as soon as possible, you can till as much soil as you can as long as you have enough energy. Having snacks ready will definitely help you out since you might get tired easily from too much tilling.

What are Clay Nodes?

With Stardew Valley's 1.5 update, there's a new place that you can visit called Ginger Island. In order to go there, you will need to complete the community center first and then acquire some new quests from Willy, the fisherman. Once you have access to Ginger Island, you can head to a broken bridge to the west side of the Island Field Office. This bridge can be repaired if you provide 10 pieces of Golden Walnuts, and you'll have access to the dig site!

The Ginger Island Dig Site lets you acquire resources similar to the Quarry, and one of the items you can get here are Clay Nodes which has guaranteed Clay once opened.
