How to get a Horse in Stardew Valley

If you look at the different animals that Marnie sells on her ranch, you might be wondering where the Horse is. In Stardew Valley, the horse isn't your typical animal. You don't need to purchase it from Marnie since you can actually get it from Robin, the carpenter. If you visit Robin and try to construct some buildings for your farm, you'll be able to find the Stable.

The Stable is a building that you can make which will serve as your Horse's home. Upon purchasing this building, you will choose a plot of land to place it. Once Robin finishes her construction, you'll be surprised that the Horse is part of the purchase! In order to build the Stable, you will need the following items:

  • 10,000 Gold: This is more gold compared to what you'll need when creating a Silo. If you're able to sell your harvests, you can reinvest them in more seeds to make you more money. Fishing is also a good source of starting income.
  • 100 Hardwood: Hardwood is a special piece of material that you can acquire from chopping a mahogany tree, large stumps, or a large log. You will need the appropriate axe for chopping those down so make sure to upgrade it.
  • 5 Iron Bar: Silver ores can be acquired from nodes that you can find in the mines. Once you have enough ores, you can use a furnace to smelt it into Iron Bars.

What can you do with your Horse?

Once your stable has been built, you can hop on your horse at any time you want. You will notice that your horse is always ready for use. You can leave the stable on a location near your house so you'll have an easier time riding it. Here are the different features that you can do with your horse.

  • Faster speed: The main purpose of your horse is for you to get around places at a faster speed than your regular walk. Did you know that you can your horse's speed can be increased if you eat food that provides speed buffs such as crab cakes and espresso?
  • Leave it anywhere: You can leave your horse in any part of your farm or town. If you go to sleep, you will find that your horse will be back at the stable the next day.
  • Give it hats: One thing that you can easily miss is customizing the look of your horse. Not only can your farmer wear hats, but you can also give them to your horse. There are no special effects for wearing them, but it does make your horse look cute!

Having a horse has no downsides, so trying to build a stable as one of your first projects can be a good thing to do. Once you have access to the kitchen, you can make food to increase your speed and soon enough you'll be zooming around.

We hope that this page has helped you learn how to get your own horse. There are a lot of things you can do as well in Stardew Valley, so please don't hesitate to check our other pages!
