How to get a Chicken Coop

When playing Stardew Valley, you'll be able to find your daily journal which lets you know what activities you can do next. This is handy if you feel overwhelmed with the tasks that you need to do. One of the first tasks you need to do is to build a coop. So, let's pay Robin a visit at her house! Follow the path to the north of your farm and you'll find it.

If you decide to construct some buildings for your farm, one of the choices you'll find is the Coop. This simple structure will help you house one of the first type of animals you can get in the game, Chickens! To build your coop, you'll need the following materials:

  • 4,000 Gold: If you are starting out on your farm for the first time, try to sell your first crops. You can also sell fish if you used your fishing rod, and any other forageable items you can find.
  • 300 Wood: Wood is one of the resources that you'll easily find by chopping wood with your axe. There's logs and trees you can chop on your farm, or you can find more trees at the southern map from your farm's location.
  • 100 Stone: Stones can be acquired from picking on rocks using your pickaxe. There are rocks scattered on your farm when starting out. You can also find more rocks if you visit the mines.

Once you have chosen your spot, Robin will work on building your coop. The basic coop can house up to 4 chickens, and you'll have access to your hay hopper and feeding tray. If your chickens do not go outside to eat grass, you will need to pick up hay and place it on the tray. If not, your chickens will be unsatisfied and they might not produce much eggs for you.

Upgrading your Chicken Coop

If your farm has been progressing, you might want to improve your facilities as well. If you head out to Robin and check out the different buildings available, you'll find that there are upgrades available for your coop.

  • Big Coop: Upgraded from a Coop. Requires 10,000 Gold, 400 Wood, and 150 Stone. You gain access to the Incubator. This coop can house 8 animals, and you can now add Chickens, Ducks, Void Chickens, Dinosaurs, and Golden Chickens.
  • Deluxe Coop: Upgraded from a Big Coop. Requires 20,000 Gold, 500 Wood, and 200 Stone. You gain access to the Auto feeder. This coop can house 12 animals, and you can now add Chickens, Ducks, Void Chickens, Dinosaurs, Golden Chickens, and Rabbits.

Coop Tip: Eggs that you don't use can be hatched using incubators. This is only possible if you have enough slots on your coop.

Majority of the coop animals that you raise can provide you with useful products. Eggs can be used for cooking, you can turn them into mayonnaise, or even use them as gifts. You can let your animals roam your farm and let them eat wild grass too!

We hope that this page has helped you learn how to get your own coop. There are a lot of things you can do as well in Stardew Valley, so please don't hesitate to check our other pages!
