How can you level up the Farming Skill in Stardew Valley?

As the name implies, farming is a skill that you can develop when you take care of your farm. You can get farming experience by harvesting your crops once they are ready. Taking care of animals also provides farming experience such as petting them, milking cows and goats, shearing for wool, or picking up animal products inside a barn or coop.

Take note that using the hoe and watering can do not provide any farming experience. However, increasing your farming skill lets you have increased proficiency for those tools meaning you will use less energy when using it.

Leveling up your farming skill is needed because each level will unlock new features for you such as crafting recipes, cooking recipes, as well as professions that you can choose from at farming skill level 5 and 10 respectively.

Which Farming Profession should I choose in Stardew Valley?

All professions for farming have their uses. You will notice that for farming, the professions are divided in terms of focus on what type of farm that you have. If you are focused on an animal farm, then the Rancher profession line is good. But if your farm is focused on crops, then the Tiller profession is better.

Money making wise however, it would be best for you to take the Artisan route under the Tiller profession. Wines, Truffle Oils, and such can make a lot of money. However, this will take some time, but you'll reap the most rewards.
