Vampire Survivors: Weapon Evolution and Union Guide

By Paul | Jan 1st 2024

Vampire Survivors already has a wide variety of weapons that characters start with and players can unlock during their run. However, players will be able to access even more powerful versions of these weapons through the Weapon Evolution and Union system. In this guide, we will discuss how these potent, Evolution and Union weapons can be unlocked when playing the game.

Vampire Survivors: Weapon Evolution and Union Mechanics

When evolving or uniting weapons, or receiving Gifts, players must meet these specific conditions.

  • When uniting weapons, both base weapons' levels must be maxed out. (A passive counterpart item may be required)
  • Ashes of Muspell, Crimson Shroud, Infinite Corridor, and Sole Solution weapons require their corresponding specific passive items to be fully leveled up.
  • Bracelet , Bi-Bracelet, or Super Candybox II Turbo weapons each don't need a passive item to be obtained.

You'll be able to review all unlocked weapon unions by checking them in your Collection screen (from the main menu) or when pausing the game.

If you want to know how to unlock the game's built-in cheats menu, please check out our How to Unlock the Secrets (Cheat Codes) Menu guide.

Evolution Chests

After meeting the conditions described above, players must then need to collect a treasure chest containing the evolved form of the weapon. In most stages, these "evolution chests" are dropped by defeating bosses that spawn around and after 10 minutes into the run. However, there are certain stages with exceptions, as listed below.

  • In the Mad Forest stage, the first chest dropped by the Glowing Bat can evolve a weapon. This enemy spawns along the wave at the 1:00 mark.
  • In the Green Acres stage, the chests obtained from enemy waves are the same as the wave in their original wave. (This is somewhat confusing so please check our further explanation below this list.)
  • In the Tiny Bridge stage, all chests dropped can evolve weapons except from those chests dropped by bosses that appear in the 3:00 and 6:00 minute mark.
  • All chests in the following stages can evolve weapons; time or number of waves has no bearing to this condition whatsoever: Boss Rash, Cappella Magna, Dairy Plant , and Il Molise .
  • Arcana treasure chests (commonly appearing in the 11:00 and 21:00 minute marks in the run) can only evolve weapons if the player already possesses the maximum amount of Arcana at that point.
  • The secret character Gyorunton has the special trait that allows it to evolve weapons with any chest regardless of condition.

Green Acres is a stage where random enemy waves from normal stages are spawned. As such, the waves that drop evolution chests will be the same as spawned waves' original stage. Here are some examples:

  1. Enemy waves from the Dairy Plant stage can drop evolution chests regardless of time.
  2. Enemy waves from the Inlaid Library stage can drop evolution chests only at the 10-minute mark onwards.

What happens to base weapons and passive items

After obtaining the chest containing the evolved weapon, one of the three things listed below will happen, depending whether the weapon is evolved, combined (union), or a gift is obtained.

  1. Evolution: The base weapon is removed and the evolved version of the weapon will replace it in its slot. The passive (partner) item remains intact and unchanged.
  2. Union: Both base weapons are removed and their combined version is added. This frees up a weapon slot.
  3. Gift: The gift is added and the base weapon will not be replaced.

Morphing

There are also certain weapons that automatically evolve when specific characters transform into a new form. So far, only Mortaccio, O'Sole Meeo, and Yatta Cavallo are the characters who can morph. Morphing requires specific relics and conditions to be met. When the character morphs, their respective starting weapon evolves as well. There's no need to obtain an evolution treasure chest in order to get the evolved weapon through morphing.
