Runes are the game's primary currency and are therefore extremely valuable. Runes are used to purchase dragons and resources such as fish and wood. It is also used to speed up nearly every action in the game including construction of buildings, exploration, dragon training, etc. Runes are also quite rare and rather hard to come by. Of course, you can always buy them with real money which is the fastest way to obtain them (the promos often give discounts). But there are ways to get runes for free as well, you just need some time and ample patience.
For starters, connect to your Facebook account for 50 free runes and also visit the Rise of Berk community for 25 free runes. Other methods are as follows:
Do not waste any runes during the tutorial at the beginning of the game. It takes no more than 3 minutes to complete each of the actions for the entire duration of the tutorial. Simply wait out the time and the game will proceed.Complete in-game missions given by the different characters (mostly side quests). Some of these missions are quickies while others take some time.Complete the Rune Collection entries shown within the Collections menu.Purchase the riders' dragons. Stormfly, Hookfang, Meatlug and Barf and Belch become available at the shop once you've rebuilt their rider's house. You will be rewarded with 300 runes after buying one. Take note that these dragons are offered at 50% off for 24 hours the first time you unlock them, so make sure you have enough runes to buy before you try to rebuild the riders' houses.Remove rocks and boulders. This particular method will eat into your wood reserves and will also take quite a bit of time depending on the size of the rock.Send Toothless out to explore. He and Hiccup occasionally return from these trips with runes. The further away the location, the more runes they get.Complete external offers. The available offers are accessed through the Meade Hall. Tap the Vikings icon first and then tap the "Get Free Runes" button.Spoils of war.
