How to fight the monsters on the map?

You can fight the monsters on the map by clicking them and hitting attack, but you must start off with a level 1 monster.
The best way to find a level 1 monster is to tap the search button and select monster and drag the slider to level 1.
Then after you have defeated a level 1 monster the next level is unlocked and so on... The monsters get progressively harder, then higher the level.
