How can I get rid of dwellers to make room for new ones? I want to remove the 2 star dwellers to get better ones.

You can banish a dweller you don't need any more. Just tap on the dweller to bring up their information page and then tap on the small menu icon to the right of their name. This will give you the option to change their name or banish them. Any items they are carrying / wearing will be kept by you.
Remember this is not reversible, you cannot get them back.
