How do you spend the coins? I’ve got lots but when I tap on them it just opens up the shop.

If you have any “lightbulb”. clues left, the coins are not useful. But if you use up all your hints, THEN holding down the lightbulb gives you a hint and deducts coins.
Most people who play this game seriously have a bunch of hints saved and will never need the coins.

Reading answers here I think ppl are confusing “Wordscapes” with “Wordscapes Shapes”. It’s the latter where coins are earned but can never be used.

I have 166,000 coins and have found absolutely no use for them. I also have collected many lightbulbs, bullseyes, and hints that I do not use, so I doubt I will find a use for my coins. The coins seem useless since you can’t spend them on anything. Guest Replied

Only benefit I have found for coins is getting a letter by tapping light bulb (hint), down by the circle. You do not get to choose where the letter (hint) goes in the puzzle. If you touch the coin total, you will get link for option to purchase more coins & etc.

You can spend them during the game if you get stuck and can't complete a Wordscape. Say for example you just can't figure out a word in the puzzle, you can spend coins at that point for some help. Tap the lightbulb icon if you need assistance.

DON'T JUST TAP ON THE LIGHTBULB, BUT HOLD IT DOWN.. When you lift your thumb, your coins are used to identify a letter. You will lose 100 coins, so do this prudently. I have over 50,000 coins that up until now seemed useless. Guest Replied

I asked how do you spend the coins. Your answer to tap the lightbulb. But when I do, it opens up to a shop where you have to buy more coins in a bundle at $8.49 to ultimate bundle of $139.99. That is not helpful. I'm not trying to purchase anything! Which means the coins is useless as someone mentioned before!.Guest Replied

You can def use coins to buy different types of assists. I just tap the lightbuld, bullseye or rocket, and if I have enough coins I get help. If you don't have enough coins it will take you to the store to buy some. You need 100 coins for a light bulb hin that reveals a random letter, 200 for a bulleye where you get to chose which letter to reveal or 300 for a rocket to reveal 5 letters at random.Do not tap on the coins themselves, that just takes you to the store.

It used to be where you could use your earned coins to buy swaps and still play too .. which is what I mostly used .. this new way if you can’t use them to purchase what you’d like is terrible !! Guess it’s time to find a new game ... why can’t they leave well enough alone !!!!!! Guest Replied
To buy lightbulbs, bullseye, and rockets you have to use your coins. You either earn the coins or you can buy them with real money from the store. I wouldn’t say that the coins are useless.Guest Replied
The coins are to obtain hints. Yes, if you push the lightbulb you will get a letter but lose 100 points. I think the coolest things to buy are the bees! They are a lot of help!!!Guest Replied
I believe you can buy a hint for 100 coins, a fan for some number of coins or a rocket for 200 coins. I think there might be another thing. This is for Wordscapes word search. For just Wordscapes (where you get 5 or 6 letters) you can definitely use the coins to buys bees, rockets, hints and bullseyes. Guest Replied
Right now I have 12036 coins. If I tap it I’m given the option to PURCHASE bundles. When my piggy bank is full with MY coins I have to PURCHASE. Bees have to be PURCHASED. The common denominator here is PURCHASE. So, do we really EARN coins - do my earned coins give me bullseyes, rockets and light bulbs!? AppGamer Replied
Tap the buttons for Lightbulbs, bullseye, rocket to use them. If you have some saved it will used the saved ones, if you don't have them saved then you will spend coins to use them. You cannot buy them in advance though. You cannot buy Bees with coins.
The piggy bank is just another way to buy more coins. But if you don't need more coins then ignore it.
