Level 16, John is ill, how do I treat him?

You will have to put up with John being ill for a while. Eventually you will be given a recipe for a curative soup. I fed John the soup and he returned to normal, but I'm not sure if the cure is permanent. It takes John an hour of gameplay to eat the soup. You will get this recipe on the dam level where John becomes ill.
