To the Sea...To the Sea...

On your third settlement you will have access to a water resource. You can now fish and along with it are new resources are new requirements and new tools. And surprise! A new gameplay mechanic. Unlike the mines and the fields, fishing requires you to actively "harvest" the resources. You have to guide the boat into the resource before you can get it. The boat can only move up to three squares of the SAME TILE. When the boat travels within the same tiles, it gathers the tiles and turn them into salt (if shallow water tiles), and water (if deep water / ocean tiles).

Both the mine and the fields discharge bonus tiles randomly all over the place. The sea will pop out the bonus tile on a particular place in the board (the tile where the requirement amount of tiles is met). If you are chaining long instances of deep water tiles, make sure that the spice island pops out near you. Same goes to the shallow water tiles for the fishes. Spices are harvested when visiting a set amount of spice islands, and fish is harvested when visiting a set amount of school of fish. The set amount varies depending on the upgrades, the workers' specialties, and building bonuses.

The mysterious rune equivalent that can be found in the sea are the treasure chests. Treasure chests gives you random resources, and this is very important. The resources that you can get from treasure chests are not tiles, they are the actual resources. Meaning salt, fish, water, and spices in their resource form! And you won't get just one, you get lots of it. Everytime there is a chest floating in the sea, go get it. Forget everything just go get it. There are also chances of getting runes and gold coins off treasure chests, but it is absolutely worth it to abandon everything for a chance of getting the water-based resources in their useful forms.
