It is often tempting to hold back your fighters for use in an emergency, but the reality is that that is the worse way to use them!
Remember you can only deploy your Fighters ONCE in each battle - and once they are deployed they will continue to battle until they are destroyed, so you may as well get them out there and into play as early as you can.
