Lifeweaver: A New Type of Overwatch 2 Support Hero

With the launch of Season 4 of Overwatch 2, we can expect a number of improvements and changes to the game, but one of the ones we are most excited about is the addition on a new support hero, Lifeweaver. Lifeweaver is a support hero in Overwatch 2 that doesn't focus on raw healing power but instead on changing player positioning and providing utility to his team.

Although his Healing Blossom ability can heal a burst of health to a targeted ally, it takes a few seconds to charge up. However, his various abilities are where he shines, allowing him to reposition teammates, provide healing or damage, and create vantage points for damage dealers.

These abilities can be used strategically to give his team the advantage in crucial team fights.. In this article, we will explore Lifeweaver's abilities, weapons, and why he could be a game-changer for Overwatch 2.

You can check out the Origin Story of Lifeweaver in this official trailer below:

Weapons

Lifeweaver has two primary weapons: Healing Blossom and Thorn Volley. Healing Blossom is his main healing ability, which allows players to hold it to charge a burst of healing that can be released on a targeted ally. Meanwhile, Thorn Volley is a secondary weapon that allows players to fire a projectile of damage-dealing thorns at their enemies. Although he doesn't distribute the most healing nor does he dish out the most damage, the ease with which he switches between these two weapons is a significant selling point.

Abilities

Lifeweaver truly excels in his multiple abilities, with Life Grip being the most contentious. This ability allows him to pull teammates towards him, which can be used to reposition teammates who are under attack, briefly protecting them as they move. However, there are concerns that this ability will be used for griefing, but Blizzard has stated that there will be some level of detection to prevent players from being dragged off the map.

His other two abilities are Petal Platform which throws a platform onto the ground that will lift up anyone that steps on it, and Rejuvenating Dash which is where you can get a small increase in health when you dash in the direction that you are moving.

Visually, Lifeweaver's Tree of Life ultimate ability is one of the very best Overwatch has ever introduced. The hero plants a giant tree nearby, with it instantly healing teammates as it sprouts, before continuing to heal teammates over time. Placing down this tree at a choke point can turn the tide of battle better than most other ultimate abilities in the game, making it the perfect counterpoint to Rammatra's ultimate, which deals damage.

Lifeweaver also has two other passive abilities which are Parting Gift, this gives a health boost to whoever picks this up when you die. Anyone can pick this up and benefit, friend or foe. And also Heal over time.

Why Lifeweaver could be a game-changing new hero

Lifeweaver is a hero with the capabilities to provide his teammates with a slew of tactical advantages while negating a bunch of other heroes' abilities. The saving grace for Lifeweaver's opponents is that his Life Grip ability currently has a 20-second cooldown, which means that he can't throw players around with giddy abandon. With the ability to use this move sparingly, players need to consider when it's best to activate it.

Inventive players are going to have a field day with what Lifeweaver can do. There's a ton of flexibility here, from his Tree of Life being placeable on the raised Petal Platform, to him being able to reposition teammates on the fly. Lifeweaver could thrive in Overwatch 2, and players are already anticipating a litany of YouTubers calling the new hero overpowered and desperately waiting for a nerf.

Look out for Lifeweaver when Overwatch 2 Season 4 begins on April 11, 2023.
