Don't build. If you have no buildings in your current level, then you cannot be attacked and can't lose shields.
There are a few good reasons for doing this.
Every time you land on a shield on the board, you'll get back the number of dice that you threw to get there.
So basically, it's just like having a free throw opportunity.
You can't get hit with the attacks that can be really draining on your Net Worth in the game.
Yes if you are stashing a lot of money in your account, then it is possible to get hit there. But most of the time these are for small amounts.
