What do workers do?

I have a few tents and a shanty. They say available workers 5 but I don't know what they do??

Each building needs workers, your shanty/tents make sure that you have workers in your village who can work.

I have several times that i needed more workers, so i had to wait till some products like in my bakery are finished so i can make products in other buildings.

Available 5 means you have 5 workers who are not working
