Bingo Bonuses
When three power stones in a row of slots line-up (given that the Pokemon you are using have unlocked a full row of slots), you’ll earn an additional bonus buff. Knowing that a Pokemon have a total of 9 slots, it is possible to earn as much as 3 bingo bonuses for each Pokemon. So before you heavily invest on strengthening a certain Pokemon, make sure you know its particular bingo bonus to see if it is worth spending your efforts with.
Collect Free PM Tickets Daily
Even if you don’t plan to play for the day, you must at least log in the game to get the free PM Tickets daily. This resets every 22 hours so make sure to make the most out of it. When for instance you’d get the opportunity to play longer times later on, you’ll have lots of PM tickets to instantly replenish your energy, or speed up the cooking process with your PM tickets. Additionally, you can purchase decorations with PM tickets - which would grant you passive buffs permanently.
Collect a Massive Quantity of Cooking Ingredients
Instead of throwing yourself into finding recipes that will make up a half-decent dish (like when settling for lower-quality dish), you must fixate on playing lots of expeditions first to collect a massive number of ingredients. Not unless you try to procure Pokemon that will be used for training your main roster, you should not put your efforts to making random Pokemon.
Collect the specific ingredients you need by classifying the levels that gives them and re-do that level a lot. When you later on unlock better cooking pots in the game, you’ll need more quantities of ingredients per slot -- which shouldn’t be a problem if you’ve trained yourself to hoard a lot of ingredients early in the game.
Check our Recipe Cheat Sheet to help you procure a certain type of Pokemon and our Cooking Basics guide to help you understand how you can lure better Pokemon when cooking.
Collect Rare Power Stones
Although you you might see some power stones to have a higher value than others, make sure you put into consideration the additional boosts that rare power stones might grant you in return. Say for instance, there are special power stones that gives your Pokemon tremendous increase in critical hit rate and critical damage - which would make its attack far stronger than when equipping an normal attack-boosting power stone.
The best way to collect rare power stones is to play the hardest level that you can successfully accomplish - when the expedition gauge gets filled up (the one that assures a special item loot). This way, you can earn the strongest special power stone for you current level.
Game Does Not Implement Pokemon-Type RPS Mechanic
You might have thought that because Gamefreak developed the game, that it would implement the same RPS mechanic that Pokemon fans have grown accustomed with. Sad to say but this is not the case in Pokemon Quest. However, certain types of Pokemon will gain leverage on specific levels that are heavily populated with similar Pokemon that are weak to it (type-wise). You’ll see this advantage prior to starting the level as it would indicate that a Pokemon in your roster gets a battle rating boost for that particular level.
Give at least 1000 battle rating headroom for Auto Play
If you are invested in re-playing levels to earn certain types of loots (like specific power stones or cooking ingredient) you might want to resort to using the game’s auto-play feature. The AI seems to be reasonably ok as far as trying to defeat the challenge. Although there might be some instances where it could still fail the mission by repeatedly using moves that aren’t applicable to the situation (say for instance using buffs repeatedly instead of performing an attack).
Some levels also have self-destructing opponents that might induce tremendous damage to your roster halfway through the expedition which would potentially result to a failure. To make sure you complete a level without a hitch, you might want to secure at least a thousand battle rating over what is normally prescribed by the given level. This way, you’ll greatly minimized the percentage of failure. Remember that each expedition sets you back 1 energy point which is equivalent to 5 precious PM tickets.
Invest in a Tank Pokemon
The only way you fail a level is when all three Pokemon in your roster simultaneously gets exhausted. With that in mind, you might want to secure at least one Tank-like Pokemon with lots of HP at its disposal. This and a couple regen-buffs, will make it almost impossible to defeat your team - as it will always give time to your other two (which should be invested on heavy attacks) to recuperate and be summoned again for battle.
A great strategy is to procure an Onix Pokemon and train it to learn the “Harden” move set. Compounding this with sharing stones will grant your team a near-to-impossible to defeat toughness.
Move set and Combination of Pokemon Matters
Building a Tank of an Onix would generally be useless if its accompanying Pokemon do not have the capacity to deal heavy damage on the enemies. Given that boss battles would generally have monstrous HP, your best bet to stick it out alive is to have Pokemon that have the capacity to deal heavy damage. If you’ve invested purely in toughness, it most likely that you’d still lose boss battles since you do not have damage dealers on the team.
See to it that you have a great balance between your Pokemon and their individual function in the team. Have a tank that sits at the front row, one that gives your team a buff or renders a de-buff on enemy (say confusion), and one that induces a heavy damage long-ranged attack. To whatever weakness each Pokemon have, try to negate it as much by paying attention to the power stone your equip them with.
Use Similar Type of Pokemon to Train Efficiently
When you try training a Pokemon to increase its level or try to learn a new move, you'll probably notice that different types of Pokemon contributes differently on the success rating of the training. Aside from higher tiered Pokemon would generally impart higher experience points, what counts more is the type of Pokemon you are using to train. The rule of thumb is to use the same type of Pokemon to earn the best success rating.
When Considering In-App Purchases
If you are planning to throw a penny on the game, make sure that you do it early than spending money when you are half-way done on the levels of the game. More than just spending for PM tickets and Power Stones, you might want to invest on expedition packs as they’d give you permanent buffs that would generally benefit you the entire game (like multiply the number of loots you gain per expedition).
