Starting on May 1st we have a new season of events in Monopoly Go. The first partner event of this season is Pod Racers, a Star Wars themed version of the partner racing event where you complete laps to try to out race your opponent teams and claim the top spot on the podium. is the worldwide, open to everyone partners event, City Racers. If you have not played a race event before it is a little different to the partner events we are used to.

This event will run over multiple days and gives you the option to team up with three other players and compete against three other teams in order to try to get the most points and beat the other three teams to the top prize. You can also play solo and take on three other single players but for lesser rewards.
We explain everything we know so far about this event including the expected rewards and how to play this new event on Monopoly Go.
Pod Racers rewards
At the start of the event you have around 24 hours to join a team and collect flags before the first race begins. After this the first of 3 races will start and your team can use the flags to power your car to lap the track.
Flags can be mainly earned from the other events running along side. At the start this will be Jedi Journey and Gungan Dodgeball. You can check all the current active and upcoming events on our all events schedule page.
Check the individual event pages to see how many flags you can gain. You can also get more flags by landing on them on the board, by completing Quick Wins and via the eight hourly free shop gift.
It's all to play for, and here are the championship rewards that teams will get at the end of the third race, according to their overall position in the event.
| Final Rank | Team Reward |
|---|---|
| 1st | Purple Sticker pack, Jabba the Hutt Board Token, Pit Droid Shield |
| 2nd | Blue sticker pack, Pink sticker pack, Pit Droid Shield |
| 3rd | Pink sticker pack, Yellow sticker pack, Pit Droid Shield |
| 4th | Yellow sticker pack, Green sticker pack |

As well as the rewards in the table above, there are lots more dice and stickers to be won for each race as you progress through lap milestones. You'll get a number of reward boxes and options on prizes that you can select from. In those boxes you may find purple sticker packs, flags to help your progress in this event, boost event timers or more free dice.
You can also choose to play the event 'Solo'. This doesn't mean you get to pilot the Falcon, but instead you can play on your own without a team against 3 other single player. This can be easier, but unfortunately the rewards for this are less.

Lap rewards are given to the whole team once the team car has completed one lap, two laps, five laps and 10 laps, then on the completion of every 10 subsequent laps during the same race with the rewards getting progressively better. For the rewards you get to choose from a selection, including more flags.
At the end of each race medals are distributed each time according to the team's placement at the end of each race. The final race, double medals are given. The number of medals your team has at the end of the championship determines their rank in the final table and what reward the team will get.
This is a fun event and playing tactically with a team can give you a good chance of winning but it is important to remember that race events can be a dice killer. With only the first place team getting a Purple pack and the cool new accessories, it could leave a lot of players disappointed.
Starting late?
As I learned this time around it's actually possible to just compete over two races in this event. To do this don't open the racer event until the first day matchmaking is over. Then the ame will give you up to one day to matchmake until everyone else's first race is over and then your team will face off against other teams over two races.
Rockets and Overloads
In previous Racer events we have had either Lucky Rockets or a new addition the Ball and chain which aim to help you out by increasing your scores or reducing the opponents scoring. In this event we have both on offer although here the Ball and chain is now called the Overload. Here is how they work.
Lucky Rocket - Using this will set your own dice to only roll 4, 5 or 6, this greatly increases the chances of a high roll score from the next roll you make. Using a high flag multiplier on this roll can give you a huge boost to the points you score, for one roll only. You can earn these from lap rewards and event rewards, and when you do you will also give one to your teammates. You can only have one at a time so use them wisely.
Overload - When you earn one of these you can use it to put the brakes on any one selected opponent team. It will slow them down by halving any of their rolled scores until they roll enough times to break it. If one of the other teams is making a fast getaway then use this to keep them in sight. You can earn these in lap rewards.

Both of these new features can make or break your race. It's best to try to co-ordinate with your team members when to use the Lucky Rocket as each player can only have one ready to use at a time, you can't stack a load. So you don't really want to collect Lucky Rockets from the lap rewards if your team mates still haven't used theirs.
The Overload, or ball and chain, is a good debuff to use against either the race leader or anyone in particular you may want to beat if you are not aiming for the top spot for whatever reason. This debuff can stack, so you can throw as many as you have at any team that you want to!
This is another reason to play tactically and not show your strength too early in the event as your team may become a target for the Overload!
Sending a message
In an new addition to the Racer events you can now communicate with your team mates through sending preset messages in the race screen. Just tap on the small emoji icon next to your avatar image. The messages are limited but they will let the other players know your situation and intentions.

The other players on your team will see the message briefly when they next open the race screen in their game. Make sure to pay attention when you log in to see any new messages. You only the the last message that the other player has sent since the last time you opened the race screen.
If you send several messages in a row, only the last one may be seen by other players unless they are on at the time.
How to play Pod Racers
This event is split into four stages; team building, match making, race events, and championship. Lets take a look in more detail about each of these four event stages.

Team Building
Just like in previous partner events, you need to team up with a number of players, this time three other players in order to form a team. While you may think it is a great idea to align yourself with the best players in your friends list it may also be the case that the game matchmaking system considers net worth when pairing your team up against three other teams.
So looking for active and committed players is probably going to be more important than finding the biggest high rollers in your friends list.
As always, a great place to start looking for people to join you in Pod Racers is our Monoply Go forum, there you can find a great bunch of players of all sorts of levels, everyone is welcome, so please do drop in and say hi.
Unlike other partner events, in Pod Racers you can leave your team during the team building phase and try to enter another one. If you don't have a team by the end of the team building phase then you'll be allocated to a team. Likewise, if you have open slots in your team a random player will be assigned to your team. Good luck with that 😃

To build your team you will have both suggested team ups and also you can search your friends list too. You'll also be able to see the time the player was last online which may give you an idea if they are still active in the game. Just like in previous partner events you can send requests to team up, and players can send requests to you too.
Team building is for the first 25 hours of the event.
How to join in a Team in Pod Racers
- Joining or building a team in Pod Racers is a lot different other partner events because if there is a player you want to team with but they already have one or two partners in their team, then you will be joining those players too. This is unlike other partner events when you could just select from individual players.
- You can still do this via the search for friends bar at the bottom of the build your teams page, just if they already have team mates, those team mates will becomes yours too!
- Like in other partner events you can send requests to individual players, but if they are already in a team, then that request goes to their whole team. Same if a friend sends you an invite, then you will not just be joining your friend but their whole team if they have one.
- You can see the status of any team requests as the whole current team is located within the same request block and you can choose to accept, deny, cancel etc... the whole team.
- If you make a mistake you can leave a team before the start of the first race, just tap the red exit icon in your avatar on the event page.
Collecting Flags
During the team building phase you may also notice that you can also collect flags. Flags are the event token that you need in order to score points in Pod Racers. You should see some on the game board during the event but there are other ways to get flags in the game.
- Tournaments
The milestones list for the tournaments that run after this event starts will show you the flags that you can earn from them. Keep up to date this any upcoming events on the Event Schedule Page.
- Quick Wins
While Pod Racers is an active event you'll get flag rewards in Quick Wins. Complete the three daily quick wins to not only get flags but to get more steps closer to the final weekly prize. On the day of the start of Pod Racers, consider not completing your Quick Wins until Pod Racers has started in order to get flags in Quick Wins on the first day. If you complete Quick Wins on reset but before Pod Racers has started, then you won't get flag rewards.
- Shop Gift
As you probably know, there is a free gift every eight hours in the shop. When there is a special event running such as Pod Racers, you should find the relevant event token, in this case flags, as part of the those free rewards. If you don't know how to get them, then basically hit the three lines, tap on shop and swipe that top shop block over until you get to the last panel which shows the free shop gift or countdown timer to the next one.
- Lap completion milestones
When your team completes laps you'll eventually pass milestones, when you do, your whole team will get the milestone reward which may include more flags.
Race Stage
Now is the time to start your engines and start hitting that dice popper with the flags you've earned. Set the multiplier to a number you are comfortable with and slam that dice popper in order to get points in this event. Look out for the race timer countdown, this will tell you when the race ends.

As you play through the race you'll reach lap milestones which will give you some rewards to choose from and at the end of the race your team will get medals according to their final position.
In the final race of the event medal rewards for that race are doubled, so do save some flags for that important last race.

Soon after the next race will start, and it is the same process again.
After getting through the first race it seems that end of race sniping is going to be a thing, so pay attention to the end times for races and try to get organised as a team to make sure you are all on the same page when it comes to tactics.
The second race was more of the same for our team with there being a mad rush to secure first place. It's all to play for however in the third and final race because the medal rewards are doubled.
Whether you are aiming to come 1st in the current race, or just second and to conserve flags for the next one. Our Monopoly Go forum forum is a great place to start a thread for your team to help manage your race tactics.
Lap Milestone Rewards
There are loads of milestone rewards for you to collect as you play through this event, look out for the lap counter in the center of the event which will tell you how many laps to the next reward.
The rewards are different every milestone, and while we don't have a list of all of the rewards, there is usually a choice between more flags, stickers or dice. Sometimes cash and boosts too.
The best option for your team is to get mroe flags as that will help you win the event. But likewise getting more dice is also useful too, particularly if the outcome of the event is more or less decided.
Championship Stage
The final rewards are now distributed to members of each team according to their team's final placement overall, which is determined by how many medals each team has won.
For now, this is pretty much all we can say about Pod Racers, we'll keep reviewing this article and add any new information that we find out about the event that we think may be of use.
I do think that our Monopoly Go forum is a great place to start looking for partners to play this event with, so feel free to introduce yourself there, or even offer a trade as the trading in the forum is pretty active too.
Happy racing!
