Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic Guide
As soon as you start the game, you will be facing a tough choice. In a tavern, there are several heroes waiting to be picked for the adventure that would definitely cost their lives. The heroes are varied, but they can be easily divided into three: DEX, STR, and INT.
DEX heroes are accurate with more focus in ranged attacks.
STR heroes are damage-soaking with more focus in being in the front line using melee attacks.
INT heroes are mostly spellcasters.
NOTE: This trifecta is not a hard and fast rule, since the heroes' skills and spells do have affinity to what is normally not within their "stereotype". For example, a Rogue can actually heal herself (with across the board immunity too for one turn), and most, if not all, melee STR-based heroes have a party based healing skill.
Normally, you have this holy trinity of Tank, DPS, and Healer. But in this game, this style of play will not guarantee you to actually finish the game, or even a first dungeon victory.
You have to deal damage, and fast. I do not recommend choosing the Priest just because it has healing powers, most especially, if you are a beginner. Other heroes have healing spells by default, the Priest only has healing / buffing spells. It is essentially a two-member party, and mobs in this game dish out damage fast and in bunches. You are basically on the same level as your opponents, equals in stats, and effectivity in spells. Meaning, you need all the damage you can throw at your enemies. Choosing heroes is essentially your choice, you can still equip the Priest with offensive spells, but can you hold on long enough for a spell to drop?
The heroes you have has randomized stats, and they are written all over their biographies. You might want to check those first in order to get the most of it. It is weird to have a Warrioress with insanely high INT and not much HP, so there is that. You are going to keep these heroes until the very end, so if you choose them, be sure of it. There are no such things as going back the tavern and swapping new heroes in and out.
