Tournaments are limited-time events where you compete against other players to collect a special currency and earn prizes.

The more tournament points you get the more rewards you can unlock, there are usually 25-30 rewards milestones to get through, each one giving you different rewards. The more points you get, the higher up the leader board you'll go.

The tournaments are usually listed on the right side of the game board, they all work in the same way, and usually all work by getting points by landing on the Railroad tiles.

Check the 'i' icon on each tournament page, for exact details of how points are scored for a particular tournament.

There are a couple of important things to consider when playing tournaments in Monopoly Go.

  • The Multiplier

The multiplier that you use to throw the dice will also affect the rewards you get when you collect points. This can make a massive difference to the amount of rewards that you receive. If you have access to High Roller, this is the best time to try for those big tournament points. The best opportunity yo land on a Railroad is when you are seven tiles away as seven is the highest probability throw for two dice, followed equally by 6 and 8.

So that is also the best time to use a high multiplier. It won't always work out though so be careful with the number of dice you risk.

  • Check the Rules

Tap on the tournament then tap the blue 'i' icon to find out exactly what you need to do to get currency for that particular tournament.

  • Save your Dice

If you have a massive stack of dice waiting to go, you may be better off waiting for a new tournament to start before you use them if you think you have enough to challenge for a top 10 spot in the next one.

If you have say 500 rolls waiting and you are not placed well in the current tournament, then I would say it's a good idea to hold onto those dice and wait for the next tournament to start and try to challenge for a top place. Alternatively, you could check the milestone rewards and see if you are close to the next one and if it is one that is of use to you such as a rare sticker pack or a lot of dice.

  • There are great rewards in tournaments

While 500 dice will be nowhere near enough to place well in a tournament, also remember that you'll be unlocking tournament rewards in the form of gift milestones as you work your way through the tournament.

The rewards can be really good and a lot of the time include free dice.

  • Last minute push

There is often a last minute push to try to place well in tournaments, so watch up for big ranking changes in the final minutes before the tournament ends.

The leader board can end up being quite different in the last hour because the top rewards can be so good.

  • Don't start until the end

There is another theory that we've seen which goes along the lines of just don't play the tournament until it it close to finishing, then start, and you may be in a more favorable group that will allow you to get a good ranking.

How to people score so many points?

You may have noticed some people scoring really high, how do they do this? Usually it is by landing a 1000x high roller throw on a Railroad and getting three rings on a bank heist. They'll easily get thousands of points with that single throw.

It takes a lot of luck though to land on a Railroad exactly with a 1000 dice throw, and then to be given a bank heist, and then to also get the three rings, but it does happen.
