The Magic 8 ball can be obtained when completing orders for the shaman.

It will also drop out of an abandoned hut in the left-hand part of the Home Island.

Well I upgraded the totem pole of happiness but it says I still got to upgrade again in order to fix the stairs, how do I do this, if it keeps telling me to upgrade the totem pole

I would like to know this too as when I click on where to find the 8 ball it keeps taking me over to part up the stairs but I can't get there because I need to upgrade the totem first!

Make sure you don't leave any dialog unread. You need to open all dialog on the left side of the screen where all of the tasks are to be able to upgrade the stairs. It took me forever to figure that out.

I think you can upgrade the stairs after you finish the quest to make 3 soaps, given by the little girl. It's a huge glitch that they haven't added this as a requirement to complete the stair-quest
