Once you "gain control" of Ella, just head directly to the tent. In order to open the drawer (and play the mini-game) you have to search for two bird ornaments that serve as key. You can find the bird ornaments on the locations encircled in yellow. Reading the newspaper will trigger an event that is needed for you to progress later on.
