What troops are the best to get?

Calvary and Bowmen do the most damage and are the best. Siege troops are almost useless at this time (3-2023). Some alliances will ask you never to use siege troops as they do little damage and grossly slow down marches.

You should be training and upgrading all troops types as soon as you can. Especially in the beginning of the game, you just want as many troops as you can as quickly as you can. So make sure all your barrack types are constantly producing soldiers.
