Bonus words are possible answers that are not in current puzzle. I assume you are referring to the stared word not part of crossword puzzle words. I don’t know what they call that extra starred word. Bonus words collect for a game and will give you coins in your cart icon for each bonus word found in a puzzle. E g Caps is not in puzzle but cap is.
