When I am winning the tournament, the person on our team who is coming second and therefore should also be No 2 on the main tournament, their name is not anywhere. So who am I playing against???

In the individual tournaments you are grouped with 100 other players. I don't know if the game assigned the groups completely randomly, depending on when you score your fist points or if it intentionally tries to avoid your team members. Either way it is unlikely that you will end up in a group with your team mates.
