Anyone any idea what the blue gems in wordgrams are for? Can't find an answer anywhere

You can do challenge matches betting gems. It's under the new match category. I think it unlocks at level 10

I thought it might to obvious when you get to higher levels, but with other gains, there seems to be no helpful use of collecting anything! 0 0 REPORT

I was able to buy a new avatar picture for my profile with them. And a different pattern for my letters.
