How to unlock special ant slots?

Each of the Marches that you will unlock (up to 4) will have an associated Evolution (research) tree. Within the items to research for each march are 3 for the special ant slots. The first item, one in the middle and the last item will unlock the front middle and back row special ant slots.

This needs to be done for each march separately.
