I have tried pushing matching buttons on screen with guitar strings and it doesn’t seem to be solving anything. Just a big red X appears. I need to get the rust remover to put on the valve handle to shut the water off?

You need to tap them as the buttons go under the fixed ones, at the point they overlap.
