Below we dive straight into Chapter 1 of the game, you'll find the other chapters on subsequent pages of this guide to the game. In this walkthrough you'll find solutions to all of the puzzles, presented as straightforwardly and spoiler free as we can. But if you are only looking for help for a specific part of the level, scroll down slowly to make sure you don't go past where you are in the chapter.

FAQ for Chapter 1 - New York Mysteries 5: Power of Art

• Check through each area that you come to thoroughly. There are a lot of items to find and clues to discover. And you will also find various collection items along the way, thee are not required to complete the story though.
• In many cases you need to move on to locate items and then return to a previous area to use it. Keep checking the areas and try to work out what use the items you find might have.
• During the game you can check the story and your tasks in the journal on the left, and also access a map to fast travel on the bottom right. Any areas that you have unlocked and that are accessible to you will be available to tap on to move to.
• The puzzles in the game can be tricky although most can be solved with some patience. If you have trouble with any of them then we have solutions and videos to help you below.
• If you still have any problems or question for the game please ask on the Answers Page.

New York Mysteries 5 Walkthrough - Chapter 1

The game begins with an opening cut scene, a frantic phone call, a museum damaged and a monster on the loose from a painting. Mr Bishop sends in his assistant Laura to investigate and this is where you takeover.

Find out what happened to the painting

You have arrived outside the museum. Your car is parked across the street and you have a key.

Collection item: Cassette, below the street light on the right.

Task - Find Michael

First open the phone booth door on the left and look inside.

Collect a Mosaic piece (1 or 4) from the phone. You can also view the poster on the right.

Now tap on the car and use the key to open the door.

Collect a hairpin from the floor on the right. Then back up and tap to view the green electrical cabinet to the right of the car.

Use the hairpin on the lock to pick it and open the cabinet. Collect a mosaic piece. Then tap to start the puzzle.

Electric cabinet puzzle

• Select a section to start from, then pick a direction to move the power in.
• You must send the power around the entire maze without going over already lit sections.
• To complete the grid you need to work out which point t start from so that you can navigate the sections successfully.
• Check the video below for help.
• The layout of the puzzle can change so you may need to find your own path

Once done the door to the museum will open and you can tap the doors to go inside.

You will see the painting with the missing monster.

Collection Item: Billiard ball at the foot of the statue on the right.

First collect a flashlight from the desk on the left. Then just above this is a column with broken brickwork, view this.

Collect another mosaic piece (3 of 4). Next view the small area of rubble in the center of the floor. Collect a flower shape.

Now look on the right side to see a dark doorway by some paintings. Tap to look in the dark area. Use the flashlight here to light up the area and you can then open the cardboard box on the floor.

Collect a utility knife from the box. Then back up and tap on the torn red curtains at the end of the main hallway.

Use the knife to cut them open and you can look out of the window and collect another mosaic piece (4 of 4).

Next tap the door on the left of the desk and you will see a drawer on the right with a puzzle. View this.

Desk Drawer Puzzle

• Add the 4 mosaic piece to start the puzzle.
• You can then tap any of the squares on the board (except the outer rows) to rotate the pieces around it.
• Arrange the tiles to match the colors in the corners. I.e. all the pink one on the top left quarter of the board.
• Check the video below for help.

Once done the drawer will open and you can collect a key. Use the key on the door to open it and then go through to the Security room.

Collection Item: Cassette on the floor on the left by the ladder.

Morphing Object: Thread / Bell on the right, next to the plant.

Collect the ladder, and then also the fire extinguisher from the wall. Then tap on the coat rack to view a blue jacket, collect a star from the pocket.

Next tap on a glass cabinet door in the center of the desk on the left wall.

Use the utility knife on the lock to open it. You can then collect an Key card.

Now back up out of the room and the building to the street. On the right side are some steps that lead down to a basement door.

Go down and use the key card on the door, then enter the store room.

You meet Michael. who will give you some details about checking the painting to verify the authenticity.

Task - Check the authenticity of the painting.

First collect the metal cart next to the table in the center of the room, then view the table in the center under the plastic sheet.

Collect a note from the lower left with a number.

Now view the green lockers on the left of the room next to Michael.

View the lock on the door and use the note here to get the code. You can then collect a Wrench, another Star and a Petal (1 of 3)

Now go back up to the main hall in the museum. Place the cart next to the painting and then tap the painting to place it in the cart and collect it.

Enter the security office. View the low cupboard at the back with the 2 star symbols on the doors.

Add the 2 stars to the doors and they will open.

Collect another flower shape and a picture. Now back up out of the office and view the dark doorway on the right again.

At the bottom of the steps is a door with a puzzle. View this and add the picture to it to get a clue to the solution.

Basement door puzzle

• Slide the colored circles around into the empty spaces on the board.
• Arrange the colors to match those in the picture (i.e. 4 reds in the top left)
• Watch the video below for help.

Once done the basement door opens and you can enter. You need to locate a UV lamp.

Collection Item: Baseball card on the top shelf on the left.

First view the green toolbox on the middle shelf on the left of the room.

Use the wrench on it to open it and you can then collect a Lubricant Aerosol, and some Insulating Tape. Next tap to look inside a bath tub on the right of the room. Move the block int to find and collect a handle.

Now tap on the trap door in the floor on the left to open it. You cannot get down so use the ladder on the open hole.

Go down the ladder and you will find a hidden object scene.

Basement Hidden Object Puzzle

• The names of the items are given at the bottom.
• Some items are hidden behind others, Or you need to move items to then release others.
• There are 15 items to find in total
• Check the video below to help you find the items.

Once done you have the UV lamp. Back up out of the basement and back into the street. Then tap to view your car again. Use the lubricant Aerosol on the seat and you can then lift it.

Collect the Purse and also a Glove box handle from under the seat. Now put the seat back down and use the glove box handle on the glove box top open it. Collect some wire cutters.

Next view the purse in your inventory, open it to find a journal, Then open that to find Bishop's business card to collect.

Go down the steps on the right of the street again to the store room. Use the handle that you got from the basement on the fridge on the right, open it to look inside.

As instructed take the jar with the flame. Then tap on the table in the center again.

Place the painting on the table, then also the developer jar. Then place the UV lamp in the lamp holder on the top right.

Next tap on the applicator (brush) on the lower left of the table top and then on the jar of developer to start applying the liquid to the painting. Once done you will see the signature.

This completes the task to authenticate the painting. You will collect a second Petal (2 of 3). You now need to return to the museum and go down to the basement.

View the boiler with the escaping steam and the red valve handle.

Use the wire cutters on the cable on the valve to remove it. Then use the fire extinguisher on the valve to cool it down.

You can then tap on the valve to turn off the steam.

Next tap on the door on the right that you can now access. Collect a petal from the top, (3 of 3).

Now back up to the street and return to the store room. View the large box on the lower left.

Add the 3 petals to the design on the front and you will reveal a puzzle.

Store Room Box Puzzle

• The puzzle contains triangles that you can slide around the board.
• Move the triangles to fit into the triangle slots around the sides. Leaving the center clear
• The triangles will turn green when the are in the right positions.

You can now collect a Spool from the box. Now return to the museum and this time go back to the Security Office.

First tap to view a small power supply box on the wall above the console on the right.

Open the box and tap the switch to turn off the power. Then you can use he Insulating tape on the broken wire to repair it. Then turn the power back on.

The console is now working, View this and add the Spool to the right side.

Then tap the green play button to watch the recording. You now need to contact Bishop.

Return to the store room and talk to Michael the museum director. You will have a conversation with him about the monster. He will give you a Token for the payphone. Back out to the street again and then tap on the payphone.

Add the token to the slot at the top and then place Bishop's business card just below the dial.

You can then see the number on the card to dial for Bishop.

View the dial and enter the numbers to make the call. After the call ends you can collect a Flower shape from the bottom of the phone.

Task - Follow the Monster

Go back into the museum and down to the basement. Then view the back door again.

Add the 3 flowers to the panel on the door and you will find another puzzle.

Basement Back Door Puzzle.

• There are 2 boards with red and green balls and slots.
• Use the sliders to move the balls and place them into the matching colored slots.
• The left side is easy, the wight side is more complicated.
• Watch the video below for a solution.

Once done the back door opens and you can tap it to move out into an alley behind the museum.

Morphing Object: scissors / brush on the top of the green bin on the left of the alley.

Collection Item: Billiard ball on a rubbish bag on the lower right.

On the left of the Alley is a red typewriter on a box, view this, collect the Lever Arm.

Next view an open green bin on the right side of the alley.

Use the knife on the black bag on top and you can then collect a hose and some wire. Now view the gate at the end of the alley, it is closed with wire.

Use the wire cutters to remove the wire and you can pass through to a side street.

Collection Item: Baseball card on a small fence on the far left.

Morphing Object: Changing neon sign on the right.

View the Large Digger / Machine nit he center of the road.

Use the wire on the window to open the lock on the door, the open the door.

Collect some matches from inside and then use the lever arm on the slot to place it and tap it to activate the digger. This will clear some debris from the sewer hole in the center of the street.

Collect the Pipe from the left of the hole. Then you need to tap in the street just to the left of the digger where the arm of the digger was.

Collect the skateboard from the ground. Then tap on the small tree on the right side of the digger.

Tap to clear away the leaves and then you can collect a slingshot. Now back up to the alley way. Use the slingshot on the high balcony on the left to knock down and collect a Medallion.

Then view the bike in the center of the alley.

Use the medallion on the bag top open it and yo will find a paper with a clue. Next view the typewriter again on the left. Then place the clue paper on it.

View the keys and use them to type in the code.

You can now collect a Magnet. Next view the boards next to the green bin on the right.

Use the skateboard on the board and you will be able to collect them. Return to the side street and tap the fenced off area on the left to see a large puddle.

Use the boards here and you will be able to cross the puddle into the fenced off area.

First view the gated doorway on the left side and collect a knife.

Then view the tire and rubbish on the back right of the scene.

Collect the large round clamp. Then move some items and bricks until you find a Socket Utility key (tool) to collect. Then use the knife on the tire to cut off a strip of rubber. You will be able to then collect another socket key from inside the tire.

Next view the large storage box on the left of the area. Use the 2 socket keys on it to open it.

Collect from inside some wires, and a screwdriver. Then also move the nuts and bolts on the right to find a Key. View the gate again and use the key to open it and collect a pump.

Now view the leaking pipe in the ground.

Add to it the rubber strip, and then the clamp. Then use the screwdriver to tighten the clamp. You can then collect a hose from under the pipe. Then tap to view the generator on the left of the hole.

Add the pump and the wires to connect it and then finally the hose.

The water will be pumped out of the hole and you can collect the ladder. Now view the drain hole in the center of the road again an place the ladder there.

Go down into the sewer.

Collection item: Billiard ball in the brick arch on the far left.

Morphing Object: bottle / cup by the railing on the far right.

At the top of the steps on the left (by the barrel) is an arch, tap to look through here and find a gate.

Use the pipe on the floor on the other side of the gate to drag a Lever Arm handle towards you and then collect it.

Use the lever arm on the switch box on the right of the gate and you can then open the gate.

Collect the long Board on the left. Next tap to view the tunnel on the right side of the water.

Use the board here to make a bridge to cross.

Use the Flashlight on the tunnel so that you can move forward.

You now enter a maze of tunnels and other passages. Your first target is to find a key. Follow the tunnel to the right from the first room and then again take the furthest tunnel entrance to the right in the next room.

Look on the barrel on the far right to find a key.

At this point the flashlight will stop working. Hit back a few times to get back to the side street. View the large cupboard on the right side with the green doors.Then use the key to open the lock.

Collect from inside a Kerosene Lamp. Go back down into the Sewer and tap to view the yellow barrel on the left. Place the lamp on the floor and then tap the top of the barrel to remove the cap. Next add the hose and the lamp will be filled with fuel.

Now view the full lamp in your inventory, tap the top to remove the glass cover and then use the matches to light it.

You now have a burning lamp. Use the lamp on the tunnel on the right to head into the maze again.

Find the Exit

Move through the maze following the monster trail. Use these directions.

1. Right Tunnel
2. Top right tunnel
3. Top center tunnel
4. Turn corer to the right (not through the hole)
5. Top left tunnel
6. Straight ahead
7. A door at the top center, there is a ladder to the right.
8. The tunnel in the center at the bottom of the steps.

You will find yourself at the bottom of a hole with a broken ladder. You need to now find 10 ladder rungs in the maze of sewers in order to climb out.

Make your way back through the maze and check all of the side rooms and other passages that you find. There are many dead ends but most rooms you enter will have 1 rung in them. You are looking for 10 metal ladder rungs such as in the image below. You can only collect these rungs after finding the way out.

While searching you will be in a room with a bridge and 3 tunnels, only the center one is open. On the right side is a barrel with a lever on top, place the lever on the yellow control on the left side. This will let you open the other 2 dates (one at a time) so that you can search those rooms.

Once you find all 10, go back through the maze to the exit and place them on the wall. You can then climb up.

Collection Item: Baseball Card on the ground by the puzzle with the paper boat.

Morphing Object: Bag / Jug on the cub to the left of the same puddle.

Tap to view the bin by the bench on the left.

Collect the Ticket from the ground and the yellow 'Blade (1 of 4) from the right side of the bin. Then also collect a Reach Extender from the left of the bin.

Net view the machine on the far left with the illuminated arrow. Add the ticket to it to start a puzzle game.

Color Sort puzzle

• There are 5 tubes with different colored materials in them.
• Select 2 tubes to pour 1 measure of each color from the first to the second each time.
• Move the materials around so that each color is fully in its own tube.
• Check the video below if you need help

Once done you can collect a Token. On the right side of the walkway are some viewing binoculars, view these.

First collect the fishing rod from the side and then use the token on the binoculars to use them.

You will see the monster in the distance swimming to a ship.

Task - Get on the Ship

Tap on the rocks to the left of the broken fence. You can see another yellow blade in thee rocks, Use the Reach Extender to collect it. (2 of 4)

Then tap on the bandstand on the top left of the scene. Collect another blade from here (3 of 4).

Then finally view the small Catamaran boat on the dock, top right. Collect 1 more blade (4 of 4).

Use the blades on the catamaran and you will be transported across to the building on the other side.

Collection Item: Cassette on the steps on the bottom right.

Morphing Object: Toy duck on the net bottom left.

At the far end of the top level deck on the right are some sacks, view these.

Use the utility knife on the left one to open it and collect a wind rose (1 of 3). Then collect the Fishnet from the top of the bag on the right.

Next tap on the water to see a floating life saver ring.

Use the fishnet on this to bring it in and you can then use the knife again on it to collect a key.

Next tap on the lit area of the dock, by the ship. You will see an awning with something on top.

Use the knife again to cut the awning and collect a second key. Then also collect a Wind rose from the lower left. (2 of 3)

Now view the door just to the right of the awning and use both of the keys to unlock it.

You can then enter the building. You need to find a way to open the other doors.

First tap on the console by the doors on the left. Collect the Brush from the top.

Net tap on the wall to the right of the doors to see some broken tiles on the floor.

Use the brush to sweep away the shards and you can then collect a wind up key. Then also collect the 'Fin from the right side.

Now view the model fish on the wall. Add the fin to the top and you can then collect an Anchor figure.

Then tap the nose of the fish to unscrew and collect the Pike Pole. Then open the case below the fish and collect a notebook.

Now tap in the center of the room to look into the round grate. Use the pike pole to collect a ships wheel figure.

Next view the class case notice board on the left.

Use the wind up key to open the cover. Once it is open tap to remove all of the papers from the board. Then collect the round 'Glass' from the bottom right.

Then add the notebook to the board to take a sketch of the design.

Now view the door to the office on the right. Use the Glass on it to replace the broken one and then add the notebook. This is now a puzzle.

Office Door Puzzle

• There are 4 triangular sections that can be rotated.
• Each one has 3 glass circles with lines on them.
• Rotate the sections to line up 4 glasses in the center to replicate the design on the notebook.

Solution:

You can now enter the office.

Place the ships wheel and anchor figures on the cabinet on the right to open the drawer. You can then collect a key card. Now go back to the machine by the doors on the left and add the key card to open them.

You can now go through to the ship.

View the flag on the wall and then use the knife to collect the Eagle emblem from it.

You now need to back up all the way to the start of the sewers, You can also do this quikcly using the map icon on the bottom right. Select the top center location in the Park Area.

View the fishing rod in your inventory and add to it the magnet.

Now tap to view the stream of water on the right and then use the rod with magnet to collect a star.

Now move through to the dockside with the bandstand.

At the top of the bandstand is a emblem view this and add to it the star and the eagle. You can then collect a hex key set. Now cross the water again and go back into the ship.

View the blue cabinet doors under the windows in the center.

Use the key keys set on the doors to open them. Then collect a Wind Rose (3 of 3). Next view a case that is on the floor. Add the 3 wind roses to it to open it.

Read the note inside and then collect the Tranquilizer gun and the 'Clue'. Now view the green fronted console on the left, add the clue paper to the slot on the left of it to start the puzzle.

Ship Console Puzzle

Step 1, you need to use the clue to tap the buttons in the correct order.

Solution:

Step 2: this unlocks a puzzle to move a ship around a grid.

• You can only move a 1 or 2 spaces in fixed directions.
• You need to land on a highlighted square
• You will clear the squares as you land on them.
• You need to clear all the squares.
• There are 3 levels to complete, watch the video for help

This opens the door on the right and you can go through to head up to the top deck. You shot the monster but then it is captured and taken away. Watch the cut scenes.

You then arrive at an old apartment building to find details of the Artist, Noah Perry.

Task - Find Noah's Apartment

Tap to talk to the man on the street. He has a key but you need to give him a soda first. There is a red Soda machine at the end of the street on the left. View this.

Tap it and you will be able to collect a soda bottle. Now view the damaged car on the street, You can open the side door and collect an umbrella.

Next view the side of the building with the fire escape. Use the umbrella on the ladder to reach it and you can then go to the roof.

Collection Item: Cassette on the rubble on the left of the roof.

Morphing Object: Snake / pipe on the roof near the center.

Collect the stool that is in front of the piano and then view the piano on the right and open the keyboard lid, collect the can opener.

View the soda bottle in your inventory and use the open t top remove the lid. Then go back down to the street and give the opened soda to the man, he will give you the key.

Now return to the roof and view the area at the end with the hanging sheets. This is a hidden object scene.

Roof Top Hidden Object Puzzle

• There are 15 items to find
• Some items are hidden and others need some interaction to reveal.
• You also need to spot some clues to get the final item. The gloves
• Watch the video for help.

Now you can view the door on the left of the roof.

Use the latex gloves to remove the power cables. Then use the key to open the door and go inside.

Collection Item: Billiard Ball on the bed on the right.

Morphing Object: Gloves / Letters on the table on the bottom right.

Tap the doorway on the left of the room to move through into a kitchen.

Collection Item: Baseball card on a chair on the bottom left.

Place the stool under the shelves on the back wall then tap the shelves to view them.

Collect the Kitchen knife from the shelf and then also the colander

Next view a cupboard in the back left corner to the left of the shelves. Use the knife on the covering to cut a hole.

Collect a flower shape and a metal sponge. Then tap on the wall by the window on the left of the room where there are some missing tiles. Use the metal sponge on the wall to reveal a clue.

Back out to the bedroom and view the sewing machine in front of the window.

Add the flower shape to it and a panel will open, collect picklock (lock pick). Then back out to the roof.

Use the knife on the rope holding the clothes to cut it down and collect the rope.

Then view the case on the right of the center of the roof.

Use the lock pick to open it and collect a button (1 of 5). Go back into the bedroom and tap on the large hole in the floor to look down.

Use the rope on the safe to make a way down, you can then tap to view it.

You cannot open the safe yet but you can collect the can of insecticide from the top left. Go back into the kitchen and open the red fridge on the right. Use the insecticide on the bugs to clear them away and then you can collect the tin of food.

Back up out to the rooftop and view the area in the center with the flies buzzing around. Use the insecticide here again to clear the flies and then use the kitchen knife to collect an Item in wax

Go back down to the street. On the left is a fire in a barrel, view this. Add the colander to it and the the Item in wax.

Collect the Handle. Next, by the back of the car in the street is an opening, there are 2 rats.

View the tin of food in your inventory and then add the can opener to get an Open food can.

Use this on the rats to move them away. Then collect a Harp from the opening. Return to the bedroom in the apartment. Look on the top shelf on the left of the room to see a box with a harp shape.

Add the harp to it to open the box. You then have a puzzle.

Assemble the statues puzzle

• There are 3 statues, but they are in 3 movable pieces. And there are 3 bases.
• Using the 3 other stand at the front rearrange all of the pieces so that the correct statue is on the correct base.
• You cannot put body pieces on top of heads or go above 3 pieces high.
• Watch the video below for help

Once done collect a button (2 of 5).

Now view the small doors to a cupboard on the right wall above the bed. Add the handle to it.

Turn both handle to open it and then collect another button (3 of 5) and a clue paper. Exit to the roof and view the piano again. Add the clue paper to it. this is a puzzle.

Piano Puzzle

• Instead of notes you have symbols that are clues to the keys to play.
• The symbols are related to the ones on the keys. E.g. the Fries = Hotdog
• Watch the video for help.

Collect the Clock hands and a button (4 of 5). Go back into the bedroom. On the wall in the corner is a clock view this.

Open the front and add the hands. Then use the clue seen earlier to set the time.

Solution:

Collect a button (5 of 5).

Now look in the hole again and view the safe. Add the button to it to start the puzzle.

Noah's Safe Puzzle

• Use the buttons to move the rows and columns and arrange the colored shapes.
• Set each item in the rows to match the one son the far left.
• Check the video for help

Solving this puzzle will open the safe and discover the artists diary. This completes thje level and wraps up our New York Mysteries 5 Power of Art Chapter 1 walkthrough. Well done. Now move on to Chapter 2.
