May is shaping up to be a packed month for idle and incremental games on iOS and Android. The big live-service names are all running fresh content โ anime crossovers, new heroes, season finales, and elemental titans โ while a recent April launch from one of Korea's bigger mobile publishers gives the genre a fresh face for new players to try. Looking ahead, there's a confirmed late-May launch on the calendar from a studio that's already topped charts in Asia.
Top of the list this month: AFK Journey is hosting a Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime crossover, Idle Heroes is running its Soul-Awakening Gala, and Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is bringing the Heroes of the Lance to D&D's Great Modron March. April's Animal Busters: Idle RPG from LINE Games is the freshest addition to the genre, and Sword x Staff is set for global launch on 19 May.
Here's the full list.

New This Month
Animal Busters: Idle RPG
Launched: 8 April 2026
LINE Games' newest idle RPG launched globally on 8 April and has already racked up over a quarter-million downloads in its first month, climbing to the top of Google Play's role-playing charts. Developed by affiliate studio Super Awesome โ the team behind webtoon adaptation Sindorim with NAVER โ Animal Busters is built around 60-plus collectible animal characters spread across five factions: Furball Empire, Avian Alliance, Wild City, Savanna Tech, and Mythic Beasts.
The pitch is exactly what you'd expect from the genre โ auto-battle progression, offline rewards, gear farming through five PvE dungeon types, and a ranking-based PvP Arena for additional rewards. What sets it apart visually is the Saturday-morning-cartoon aesthetic and a faster-than-average progression pace, which Super Awesome has explicitly positioned as a selling point rather than an afterthought.
The launch celebration is still running. Log in now to get up to 7,000 free draws, plus the new Buster "Nine-tailed Miho" pickup event is open. Pre-registration rewards โ 300 Buster Gacha Tickets, a Hero Buster Selection Card, and a random Hero Gear Card โ are still claimable for anyone who signed up ahead of release.
Notable Updates
AFK Journey
Update: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime crossover โ launches 1 May 2026
Farlight Games is pulling out one of the bigger anime crossovers of the year for May. AFK Journey's third major IP collaboration brings Frieren and Himmel from the hit anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End into the world of Esperia, marking the first-ever RPG crossover for the Frieren franchise.
The setup ties into the anime's canonical narrative: Frieren and Himmel get swept into a temporal rift while travelling to the Demon King's Castle, depositing them in the city of Cedartown in the Duchy of Whiteridge. There they help the locals through a regional crisis while a brand-new in-universe storyline plays out. Both characters are recruitable as playable heroes during the event period โ Frieren joins as a magic-casting unit and Himmel as a close-combat fighter, both rendered in AFK Journey's hand-painted 3D style.
To unlock Frieren and Himmel, players need to log in during the event period to claim them, and they can be recruited using in-game Invite Letters. The crossover follows AFK Journey's earlier collaborations with Fairy Tail (May 2025) and Delicious in Dungeon (November 2025). The new patch (1.6.3) also rolled out the Wand Wars 3v3 PvP mode and seasonal Primal Lord boss content earlier in the season.
Legend of Mushroom
Update: Adventure Dungeon: Rise of the Ancient Dragon!

Joy Net Games' fantasy-adventure idle RPG is heading into May with Adventure Dungeon: Rise of the Ancient Dragon as the headline event. The 30-million-player Legend of Mushroom has been on a heavy collab cadence in 2026 โ March alone brought back-to-back Palworld and Rabbids events โ and the publisher's monthly content rhythm is one of the most consistent in the genre.
The game's pitch hasn't changed since launch: a cute mushroom warrior pulled into a fantasy world by a magic lamp, with class branching across Storm Priest, War Mage, Frost Druid, and Mech Archer. What keeps the roster engaged is the layered systems sitting underneath that simple loop โ Pals and Avians automating resource gathering and farming, the Magic Lamp upgrades, the Family multiplayer modes, and the regular sprint-style competitions feeding the in-game economy.
The Adventure Dungeon event sits alongside the game's usual cyclical calendar of Soul Rush, Ruins Sprint, and Prayer events, all of which give regulars something to chase week to week. With recent updates like the Family Multiplayer Dungeon "Snow Crisis" and the auto-translation feature added at the start of the year, Legend of Mushroom continues to be one of the more accessible entry points for players new to the idle-incremental space.
Idle Heroes
Update: May 1-7 patch โ Soul-Awakening Gala + Glorious Treasury + Weaponry of Valor

DH Games has rolled out an explicit May 2026 patch with a busy first week. Running from 1 May 00:00 UTC through 7 May 23:59 UTC, the headline events include the Soul-Awakening Gala, the Glorious Treasury limited-time shop, and the new Weaponry of Valor series for two specific heroes โ Cosmic Enforcer-Luna and Star Alchemist-Holmes Young.
The Soul-Awakening Gala ranks idlers in the same Auction House Trade Zone based on points earned through awakening heroes, with Wonders unlocking as the top 10 in each session push their combined totals higher. The Glorious Treasury shop refreshes with discounts: 50% off the first four redemptions at Shop 1 and 50% off the first two at Shop 3. Daily login rewards include seven Enchanted Cards per day, which can be consumed for random Hero Cards.
Beyond the headline gala, the Realms Gate Corruption challenges are awarding Contract Starry Gems, the Sacred Workshop is gating the Weaponry of Valor treasure chests behind point thresholds, and Soul Merging now accepts heroes with C-minus through C-plus awakened tiers as merging materials. A long-running game with a deep roster, Idle Heroes keeps to the dense event-stack approach that defines its month-to-month engagement.
Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms
Update: The Great Modron March โ launches 6 May 2026
Codename Entertainment's official Dungeons & Dragons strategy management game is bringing Heroes of the Lance to the Sword Coast for the eighth iteration of its Great Modron March event. The new Champion is Lauralanthalasa Kanan โ better known as Laurana โ the Qualinesti elf fighter from the Dragonlance saga. Codename describes her as "the Golden General" who joined other heroes to fight the Dragon Queen after evil dragons threatened her people.
The event also brings back a much-needed rework for Melf, the elf fighter/wizard, scheduled to go live one week into the event on 13 May. Modron Automation gets some upgrades too โ players with at least four Champions in each bench slot will be able to play Split The Party 3 from the Adventuring Parties screen, unlocking a fourth adventuring party and a fourth Magic Core focused on increasing damage from magic-based Champions.
The augment package this month is mostly returning favourites: Boon XP rework, Extra Benefits (rewarding Scales of Tiamat for completed event variants), Free Rerolls (five free rerolls per set of weekly offers), and Worth The Wait (Yorven unlocks in week two with double chests for tier 2-plus variant clears). For an idle game running since 2017, Idle Champions continues to layer new mechanics onto a system that's accumulated over 140 Champions and 200-plus adventures.
Hero Wars: Alliance
Update: Wardens of Time Season finale โ through 10 May 2026
Nexters' Hero Wars: Alliance is heading into the closing stretch of its Wardens of Time Season, with the final two weeks packing some of the season's most-anticipated content. The headline addition this season is Alecto, the first Titan of the Eloraide element, with her artifacts and skin obtainable through the season-long Ancient Awakening event.
May's specific content runs across three event windows. From 2 May through 4 May, the Wardens of Time Season event introduces the new Jade Flame skins โ the first of their kind in Hero Wars โ with Tempus getting a Season Pass skin, Electra a Super Skin, and Drayne also receiving a fresh skin. From 5 May through 7 May, the Way of Eternity event lets players strengthen heroes from the Eternity faction by completing daily quests for evolution materials, soul stones, and resources.
The season closes 8 May through 10 May with When Worlds Collide and the Titan Power Event, both centred on Lumira, the light-summoning Titan introduced last December. Souls, Fairy Dust, and Titan Chests are all on offer to push Titan teams further before the season transitions. The Outland Splendor opener earlier in the season is also still relevant for skin stone farming if regulars haven't completed it yet.
On the Horizon
Sword x Staff
Expected: 19 May 2026 (per App Store listing)

Boltray Games is bringing its top-10-charting Chinese and Japanese hit to global iOS and Android, with the App Store listing currently pointing to a 19 May 2026 release date. Sword x Staff is positioned as a "Third Way RPG" โ the developer's term for a game that lets players blend strategy, exploration, and idle mechanics rather than committing to one approach.
The setup is classic isekai. You're the Chosen Adventurer transported to the world of Kanstein, teaming up with the Staff and Sword Twins to fight back against creatures called Hieromons. The dual-class Warrior/Mage system branches into 200-plus skills with mix-and-match elemental builds, swap-able cast orders, and active repositioning during auto-battles โ Boltray makes a point of saying its AI-driven characters react to the battlefield rather than standing still trading hits.
The world spans biomes from the lush Verdantglade to the mechanical Cinder Ridge to the bronze ruins of Loong Haven, with collectible companions called Fantomons accompanying the player. Offline progression keeps characters levelling while you're away. The game already ran a closed beta on Android in November 2025 across the US, UK, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Spain โ pre-registration rewards include the Purrger Scepter and Baguetteblade weapon skins.
That's the May 2026 picture for idle and incremental games on iOS and Android. The genre's update calendar is doing serious work this month โ between the Frieren crossover, Heroes of the Lance, the Soul-Awakening Gala, and the Wardens of Time finale, there's plenty for regulars to chase. Add in Animal Busters' fresh launch and Sword x Staff arriving mid-month, and idle fans have more than enough to dip into. We'll have the June slate when the next round of content lands.
