Why does my tee shot fly over gems that are in front of me. My opponent has the same equipment yet..

I had this problem too. I was told my driver has too much power and I needed to back off on the swings

It's related to the circle around your ball. When the circle is white, you will strike fully on the ground. When the circle is black your ball will jump at contact

Could be the terrain your encountering in front if you has a bump to make ball fly or it hits a edge and pops up might not see or be visable could also be glitchy or pixelated or spotty it happens

It could also be you're also using a club such as a driver or Iron with the jump icon marking its ability to do so to a degree.
