What does the closeness rating for friends mean? The number of gifts sent?

When you send and receive the familiarity increases. It's not a 1:1 increase though because I've had some ppl for a month or so and we are at like 1000 pts. so I'm not sure how they calculate it. Higher means you send/receive often from them.
