What does a minus (-26) flowers symbol mean when I’m waiting to open a new scene? I've never seen a minus on the flowers I need to open a scene.

It's a glitch. Reload you game and it will correct itself.

Thanks for the guidance. I went to Settings and hit Force Stop, reopened game and the next scene opened. 0 0 REPORT

If you unlock a scene and remove an item from your island, your flowers go into a negative number. I’m always in the negative because of how I decorated my island - I add items from my storage to unlock a scene and then put them back into storage to keep my island pretty and uncluttered

That is incorrect. The answer provided above by Mrs Tearius is correct. What you are referencing is when you need more flowers. What the OP is talking about is a glitch. Say I need 23 flowers to unlock the next level and I upgrade my daily Church Landmark...I would receive 30 flowers moving me up a level with 7 flowers toward the subsequent level. However, from time to time it will "move me" up a level and show "-7" but not allow me to access said level. By exiting and reopening the game the glitch corrects itself.
