How come, when June gets back to Orchard Island from Paris, has Virginia regressed to 12 years old and Clare and Harry are alive? Does it all become clear eventually?

Volume 2 is a prequel to volume 1 and covers years 1922-27, prior to Clare and Harry's death.
Volume 1 (1927-32)
Volume 2 (1922-27) – prequel to Volume 1
Volume 3 (1932-33) – follows Volume 1
Volume 4 (1933-) – follows Volume. 3

You get another volume when you finish the previous one. Volume 1 = brown (Scenes #1-500) = 100 chapters
Volume 2 = green (Scenes #501-750) = 50 chapters
Volume 3 = blue (Scenes #751-875) = 25 chapters
Volume 4 = purple (Scenes #876-1050) = 35 chapters
