I am on level 685 - today I saw something in my to do cases, I have not seen before- ‘spend 55 on materials’ the only materials I know of are with Jack’s plane- and they cannot be bought (I wash they could!)
Has anyone figured this out! Thanks so much. This problem in a case- race- is problematic!!

However, the task you're referring to is actually to "Use 55 materials". As mentioned earlier, there are only two ways to use materials:
Send them on Jack's plane in return for flowers, diamonds, or coins.
Use them to upgrade a building
Option 2 is generally the better option.
This "use materials" task will require a strategy change if you immediately upgrade buildings and you send Jack out on another run as soon as his plane returns from the previous run.
Spend 55 building materials to upgrade a building or to send Jack's plane on a delivery.
You don't technically spend materials. You earn materials in Hidden Object scenes and in star boxes. You own those materials and they are in your materials inventory at the time you earn them.
The materials you can send on Jack's plane are the materials you've already earned. It's the only place in the game that you can review your stock of materials.
