How much energy is generally required to play a full scene?

That varies a lot. In the beginning of the game, less energy is required and one full bar can complete some scenes, but it gradually increases as you progress. Also, the first scene of every chapter requires fewer plays than later scenes in the same chapter.

There are five stars to complete before "Mastering" a scene. It may take as few as two tries to as many as 10 tries to complete a star so you're looking at as many as 30-50 searches to complete a scene. This depends on your perseverance, skill, and super-sleuthing powers. It goes by in the blink of an eye.
