You can also get more compasses by joining a winning lounge club. Sometimes the top prizes are compasses.

Compasses can be found in Star Boxes, but you can also get them now and again during Hidden Object Scenes.
You can also buy compasses with Diamonds sometimes in the shop.

If you are actively opening land, the compasses are used immediately to open land. If any is left over, they are used toward the next plot. You can tap on the plot and the compass icon to see the numbers and your progression. If you have already opened all available land, then the compass count is stored in your game stats and continues to accumulate for future land. You cannot see the count, but customer support can tell you if you ask them.Add your answer
