The Oregon Trail Beginners Tips Guide

Here we'll list a few good ideas to get started in the game. As the game unfolds and you work your way through the tutorial a number of new things get unlocked. Here are some of the things that we've spotted for beginners to speed things up a bit and to collect more things.

Follow the Tutorial

It's really important at the beginning to just follow th tutorial and don't try to so things that are not in the initial instructions as you may run out of resources if you do too much early on. The tutorial is also a great way to learn about the game, where things are and how to get things.

Start Growing

When the instructions from the tutorial have ended you need to start growing stuff, so click on your crops and start growing something or harvest something that has already grown.

You'll also need to constantly make food for your animals, so go to the feed factory building, tap it and create some feed for your animals by dragging resources to empty boxes. It's usually a good idea to purchase a couple of extra slots if you have any free in-game money.

This is what I usually like to spend any free money I have in the game as it is an upgrade that lasts for the duration of the game, when adding slots, the slots will always be there, and they are really useful to have. Don't spend all of your in-game money on slots for one item though as they get more and more expensive, spread your slot increases around.

As you unlock more things in the game, there will be many other buildings that produce things that you would benefit from extra slots, so be careful with your spending especially if you are a free to play player.

Early Level Up Tips

Growing items, getting feed and getting resources from animals is a great way to level up quickly in the beginning of the game. Leveling up will unlock more buildings and more opportunities to level up faster in the game. So if you are stuck early on and need to get some level points, start growing stuff and feed your animals.

How to increase your population limit

Early on you'll hit your population limit, this is again where leveling up comes in handy, level up your town to increase it's population limit. You can increase your population limit by completing buildings, take for example Wainwrights's Shop which you can build early on in the game, it will add 5 to your population limit.

How to get more people to my town

You get more people to your town by buildings more living buildings. To see what living buildings you can buld tap the hammer and spanner icon in the bottom right of the game and select the icon which is the second to the left and looks like a house. Initially you can only build the Starter House, but as you progress and gain more levels, more living buildings will be unlocked and buildable.

Check the Daily Tasks

As soon as you can, build the Daily Tasks building, there are some great easyish ways to gain resources and levels by completing some tasks that you probably need to do anyway. Daily tasks reset each day and complete 4 to get a special daily task reward. Complete 7 of these daily tasks in a week to get the weekly tasks reward.

Complete the daily and weekly tasks is a great way of getting the premium in game currency too, you don't get much, but if you do this every week then it soon adds up.

Complete Collections in the Museum for Rewards

Special items are available in the game and sometimes you'll get them without even knowing, these can be used in the Museum to exchange for rewards when you complete a collection. Tap the museum to see which collections are open to your level and what you need to collect and what the reward is.

Sending Goods on the Pier

Try to send good regularly from your pier, in return you'll get good back, and sometimes they can be handy to have and possibly items that you are not leveled up enough to produce.

To build Wainwright's Shop we needed goods that we acquired by trading with the boat at the pier.

Send People on The Oregon Trail

Make sure you keep sending people on The Oregon Trail, there are loads of rewards to get and puzzle pieces to collect with which you can collect even more rewards.

The game will tell you which resources you need for your villagers to take another step further in the trail.
