How come over the Holidays I was able to get the free crystals every 6 hours. Now it is back to 8 hours...

How come over the Holidays I was able to get the free crystals every 6 hours. Now it is back to 8 hours. Also, every time I try to use the microscope, my game freezes and I have to reboot my PC. They are useless to me?
