Will the game make you max out each item?

Will the game make you max out each item? Or do you have to do that on your own to get the free gem? I've noticed some items I've put in my inventory are no longer needed, but there are still items to be maxed out, like items from the grapevine for example and the jelly jars.

I don’t think it MAKES you max them out. You could if you wanted the gem but I don't think it will interfere with future gameplay.
