Don't spend any money, but expect slow development of your Fortress. But it can be done.

Expensive if you want to keep up with the whales. Depending on servers you're screwed to deal with whatever other alliances you have to deal with. It's Expensive as hell to move servers unless you're under an l6 cc. Could be better when it comes to obtaining shards and definitely could could do better when battling and more story lines to play individually like it started. After you start it changes dramatically

Passes time but having game mechanics stack that REQUIRE purchase to progress, probably won't stick to it long

There are too many mechanics and heroes for a beginner.
