I doubt it for me because I always get the exact same thing back, or less bucks. Kinda annoying

I got the legendary car in the special auction turned out to be a replica but I traded with mutt then he gave me the legendary egg which turned to be real

Guest Answered:

Absolutely not. I put in a 600 dollar very rare and got a 570 dollar uncommon

I think the purpose of that house to to trade replica rare items for the chance of getting a new rare item.

If I get a ultra rare or legendary item that is a replica I will trade it with mutts and I normally will get the same item back which just needs to be certified

The items he returns are random but will usually be worth more than the one you are swapping. Not always though. It should be profitable but its a slow process.
