Assuming you don't need to hang on to it for a mission you can do either. Selling will get you a lot of money which you may need. Trading with Mutt can get your something worse in return however there is a chance to get the same item back which will help with having 3 facts for it.
Up to you but it you have plenty of money then Mutt may be worth a gamble.
