As soon as I start playing, the player behind me starts playing. No matter what time of day or night. How does that happen?

This is a way to keep you engaged. I purposely played a game at 1:00 AM.. just to see if anyone else's score went up. Just as I suspected it did. I stopped playing and just like that. No one passed me. So slow your ego friends we've been duped!
